Just a few observations from a life long Chiefs fan:
1. Matt Cassel isn't the worst starting QB in the league however lets be clear, what he did in 2010 was not winning. The object of the game is to win championships. He did not come remotely close to playing like a superbowl QB in 2010.
2. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that Matt Flynn appears to be just a newer version of Matt Cassel?
3. It would seem obvious that if the Chiefs had a QB capable of leading this team to the Super Bowl, then the Chiefs would have a real chance to win the whole thing this year. That is why so many people are frustrated by Pioli not acknowledging what seems obvious to so many of us.

Pioli has played it perfectly. Next year there are 4-6 1st round quality QBs. The rest of the roster is set. All he has to do (if Cassell fails) is make QB the #1 priority for 2013, and whoever he brings in will be set up to succeed.

The Chiefs didn't play Stanzi last year because Todd Haley wanted to get fired, and because by the time Romeo was named interim HC, Kyle Orton's finger had healed up.

In regards to Haley wanting to get fired, just look at his last game, the 37-10 loss to the Jets. On 3rd downs, he took Bowe, Baldwin, and Breaston off the field. When the team was down 28-3 at halftime, he trotted Palko back out there, even though they had nothing to lose by inserting Stanzi.

Cassel is gone after this year unless he puts up Pro Bowl numbers AND the Chiefs go deep in the play-offs. I don't see any justifcation for keeping him if both those things don't happen. He will be headed into the fourth year of his contract and will probably have a big roster bonus due that will be much larger than an average QB is worth. We've all seen this scenario before.

"I have no basis in reality for this assumption, and it’s just a gut feeling but I think Brady Quinn will end up being the starter in KC and actually flourish. After all, he was drafted under the Crennel regime in Cleveland, and actually played well in limited action in his last year there."

As a Browns fan that actually watched those games, this is incorrect.

There's a reason that the Browns ran the ball 75% of the time at the end of the 2009 season (Quinn's last in Cleveland). It was more dangerous to have Quinn throw than to punt.

Now, if you mean Romeo's last year in Cleveland (2008), yes, Quinn was better that year. But to say he played well is still a major stretch. His arm was mediocre at best and he was horribly inaccurate.

Don't get your hopes up that he's magically transformed into a starting-caliber NFL QB.

“I have no basis in reality for this assumption, and it’s just a gut feeling but I think Brady Quinn will end up being the starter in KC and actually flourish. After all, he was drafted under the Crennel regime in Cleveland, and actually played well in limited action in his last year there.”
I can tell you're a 49ers fan, and I don't mean to pick a fight with you because I like your team, but the Chiefs defense isn't that far from being as good as the 49ers.

Dorsey and Jackson don't put up huge numbers, but they actually both rate very well against the run. Poe has all the physical tools to be a dominant NT.

Hali is one of the best pass rushing OLB's in football, and Houston on the other side had 5.5 sacks in his last 5 games after a rough start. Derrick Johnson is as good as ILB's get, and Jovan Belcher next to him is alright.

Flowers is a legit #1 corner, and Routt has always been a solid #2. Eric Berry and Kendrick Lewis is potentially one of the best safety tandems in football.

Add in rotational guys like Menzie, Arenas, Gordon, and Bailey, and you've got yourself a pretty dang good defense.

Here is what everyone always forgets. In Cassel's 4 seasons with the Chiefs, he has had 4 different offensive coordinators. So he has had 5 different offensive coordinators in his last 5 seasons. Brian Daboll will be his 6th offensive coordinator.

If you look at those 5 years, you'll see that Cassell did will in the two years he had a real coordinator. Once with Charlie Weis (made the pro bowl) and once with Josh McDaniels in New England (stepping in for Brady). All the other years were basically Todd Hailey acting as head coach and OC at the same time.

So yeah... Give the guy a chance. This year he will have have the best line and the best group of receivers he has ever had.

My prediction is that we'll at least be saying he is a top 20 QB by the end of the year.

Being an NFL QB can be a crap shoot. Cassell inherits the perfect storm @ NE & had an MVP year. Goes to KC & the situation is different. I'm more of a college fan but how long before you write a QB off? What dictates whether they played enough to get a true assessment of their value. As an Irish fan, I thought Quinn would have fared much better than he has. Granted I'm bias & admit he'll likely never be a long term solution for anyone, but does he have a volume of work to truly assess that? When I paid attention to his situation in Cleveland, I came away thinking he was on a crappy team w/ an ill-equipped HC that couldn't decide on a starting QB as he shuffled between Quinn & Anderson. Just think if BQ entered a scenario similar to Colt McCoy or Andy Dalton? At least they're getting a chance to prove themselves w/ consistent starts.

God knows we need a QB... However, think Jesus we didn't draft R. Tannehill... I just don't see him working out. With that being said why didn't we go after Matt Flynn? I would have gladly seen Pioli overbid on a 3 year contract... It isn't like we are up against the salary cap.
