Fuzzycross sells what looks like a Kobe Bryant cross at their website. It doesn’t mention Kobe, The NBA, Lakers, or even basketball but it’s gold/purple with #24 on it. And it’s fuzzy.

So you are a professing Christian and judging Tebow, by thinking to know what he believes in his heart. God may or may not care about football. He may love it or loathe it. Who are we to think we know what God hasn’t told us to know. If you think building hospitals, donating to charity, creating his own charity, helping kids and saying “I would like to thank my Lord and saviour” is forwarding his own religious agenda then I truly feel sorry for you. He isn’t out condeming people or judging them, he just appears to be trying to make peoples lives better. It appears his ridiculous notion of religion is that of love and compassion, I am trying to grasp what yours is.

I refuse to defend Tim Tebow – as a lucky survivor of the 1st wave of “Tebowmania” (yes – I live in Denver) I’m not going to defend him now either. But what I will say is this “Tshirt” is obviously a pretty lame and crass attempt to cash in on what may or may not be – if anything the Nyets should sue just because this thing involves THEIR team logo and so forth. Tebow’s involvement in all this really doesn’t matter and simply appears to me to be an ego play on Tebow’s part (c’mon – does he really think he’s the “Anointed One?”) Aside from the Jeezus fish (someone here made a classic Seinfeld reference to that – nice move) I see no reference to Tebow – just a cheesey reference to a football team that has scored one championship in 44 years.

But the referral to Tebow and Jets can’t easily be taken back I assume. You just can’t profit from using someone else’s name if you don’t have the right to use it. In this case it happens to be Tebow and the Jets, so they should have the right to take action since apparently they didn’t agree to the web site disclosure. I don’t see anything wrong with that, from the legal perspective.

Are you kidding me? Just because he wants to spread the word does NOT mean he has to let everyone use his name and profit from it! There is nothing wrong with him wanting to pick the organization that will use his name…that organiztion could be a non profit or some other company he believes in. He doesn’t know that this company is ethical, or reputable, or anything…and yet he needs to just let them use his name?

It’s crazy to think that just because you are religious you have to let other people exploit your name…

THAT IS EXACTLY WHY THEY HAVE A CASE! You cannot use a celebrity’s name in such a way as to imply they endorse the product without their permission (and most likely compensation). The shirt, the logo, the Jets, Jesus….none of that is at issue. It’s the use of Tebow’s name in the description which crosses the line and draws the ire of lawyers.
