The Broncos signed a draft pick they hope can fit into the mix on the defensive line in 2012.

Denver announced that they agreed to terms with defensive lineman Malik Jackson. Jackson, a fifth-round pick, signed the mandated four-year deal for players drafted after the first round.

Jackson, who was drafted with the pick Denver acquired when they traded Brandon Lloyd to St. Louis, started his college career at USC before transferring to Tennessee. He started at defensive tackle in Knoxville and had 21 tackles for losses over the last two seasons. He’ll probably move to end with the Broncos, although Denver’s varied fronts could have a place for Jackson in multiple roles. The Broncos also drafted defensive tackle Derek Wolfe in the second round for a defensive line that should feature a lot of competition for playing time.

Jackson joins cornerback Omar Bolden as members of the Broncos draft class under contract. Five players remain unsigned.
