ridexile says: May 18, 2012 5:01 PM

If you do your research on how pot originally became illegal…its really messed up. Blatant lies were told to congress by people who profited over pot being illegal, and with no other research to disprove the lies, it was carried out like it has.

To paraphrase the great songwriter Todd Snider:

The war on drugs is funded by alcohol, tobacco, and pharmaceutical companies. It's not what drug you're strung out on they care about so much as whose. When marijuana became illegal, it was considered to be the drug of choice for minorities. So if you support prohibition, you're a racist! Smoke a bowl for equality, brother.

"I’m tired of pot head people complaining that it’s not legal while doing nothing to change the law. They need to start lobbying congress, run for office, and get petitions signed to influence their elected officials."

Well you've demonstrated your genuine ignorance of our efforts. We've changed or gotten the Legislatures of 17 States and DC to implement medicinal cannabis patient protection laws, got California to finally decriminalize petty possession in 2011, Massachussetts in 2008, overturned a re-criminalization law in Oregon in 1998, oh never mind, I don't have time to list all of the things we've accomplished in changing this idiotic law but it's extensive, and dates back to Oregon's decrim of petty possession in 1973.

Prohibition didn’t get overturned because drunks stayed at home complaining to their friends that alcohol should be legal.

By the way, prohibition got overturned because of the money it brought. They realized there was a high demand of alcoholics that would pay a price for a stupor of a drug. Marijuana on the other hand can be home grown and THAT is what keeps it illegal.

The other reason why prohibition was overturned is that the money spent on moonshine/import booze directly funded criminal organizations. Watch Boardwalk Empire for example, not saying it is a factual example. After they released the "if you smoke pot you support terrorists" ad I wondered why they wouldn't make it illegal.

I do agree they should tax the hell out of it too. I mean the $1 dollar tax on tobacco that would fund cancer research is a great idea. That would provide an insane amount of funding for a wonderful cause. The same could be said about doing it with marijuana.

People might complain, but I don't really feel bad for taxing a product which anyone can grow. If they placed a $10 tax on tomatoes would anyone buy them in the store?

Many states now have medical marijuana laws.

I would assume a player could get a prescription - at which point wouldn't that become a private medical matter?

And as long as the organization is fine with it, why should Roger Goodell be telling doctors what they can and can't prescribe within the law?

The only way pot will become legal is when the VAST majority of the generation in power will have the balls to overturn the wrongs of the past. Let us not forget the smear campaign against weed was spear headed by the US and more specifically Henry Anslinger

Quickly, think of all the countries in the world where pot is legal and could be smoked in front of your local police station without fear of arrest...

On the bright side, I'm 30 and I know a lot of smokers...so hopefully in 10 to 20 years we will complete legalization at the federal level

NFL players have to test positive 3 times to get suspended. The first positive test he's in the "substance abuse program".. Seems like that program does absolutely nothing. So why even test? Personally, I really don't care for weed but if they believe it helps them deal, then so be it. If their gonna do something then I'd rather them smoke than get DUIs or get in fights in a bar.

Alchohal abuse will kill you!
Perscription drug abuse will kill you!
Smoking cigarettes long term will kill you!
Hell taking too much tylenal will kill you!

All these are legal of course....

Smoking weed will make you tired, hungry, and definitely will not kill you. But because it grows out of the ground the government can't control it so it is illegal!!!! This country needs to wake up!!

Last time I checked the government can't tell me what plants I can eat, smoke, or use for therapy. It's MY BODY!!!!!! Not theirs!!!! Get a clue people!!

Over 443,000 Americans (over 18 percent of all deaths) die because of smoking each year. Secondhand smoke kills about 50,000 of them...

Alcohol abuse kills some 75,000 Americans each year and shortens the lives of these people by an average of 30 years, a U.S. government study suggested...

ZERO deaths or cancers have been linked with Marijuana...

Yet, tobacco and alcohol are both legal.

Think about why that is. Who's making FAT TAX money off of tobacco and alcohol?

bearsstillsuck says:
Prohibition didn’t get overturned because drunks stayed at home complaining to their friends that alcohol should be legal.

By the way, prohibition got overturned because of the money it brought. They realized there was a high demand of alcoholics that would pay a price for a stupor of a drug. Marijuana on the other hand can be home grown and THAT is what keeps it illegal.
