It’s three down and four to go for the Titans.
The Titans announced Friday that they have reached agreement on a contract with safety Markelle Martin. Martin was a sixth-round pick in April and he signed a four-year deal with the team.
Martin slipped a bit in the draft because he needed surgery to repair a torn meniscus in February and couldn’t take part in pre-draft workouts. That means he’ll likely be brought along slowly in Tennessee, which probably isn’t the worst thing given the work that Martin needs to do on his instincts. He thrived at Oklahoma State by playing an athletic style, but he struggled with things like biting on play action and not jumping routes too soon. He’ll need to show he’s healthy and able to improve with instruction to stick in Tennessee.
The Titans now have three members of their 2012 draft class under contract. Both of their first two picks — wide receiver Kendall Wright and linebacker Zach Brown — remain unsigned.
