bobhk is one of the saddest persona on the site. He keeps spewing his hate for the Patriots for all the years the Colts choked in the playoffs/AFC Championship resulting in only ONE Lombardi and now Peyton has taken his talen his talents to Denver while Indy has drafted another Peyton or possibly Alex Smith ???

@ampats
you are so hilarious and at the same time pathetic.

You can dish out crap to bozo (or others) but can’t take it. Figured you to be a sissy.

I don’t have have hate for the Pats. I have disdain.

I’m not a Indy fan although I like Peyton. His defense did not carry him to superbowl unlike the guy in NE.

I am a niners fan. Although we have Alex Smith (who did not play all that bad last year), I take solace in the fact that we have had a very rich tradition in NFL (including to HOF QBs, and 5 shiny Lombardi trophies). Who do you have in Pats history? Bledsoe, Grogan, Spygate, and one of the worst defeats in superbowl history.

Actually Peyton's defense did carry him to that superbowl. Go look at his stats in the playoffs that year, and check out his defensive stats too? Bob Sanders came back for the playoff and the D was dominant aside from 1 game.

And when its all said and done with this QB/HC combo the pats will have plenty of players you can add to the list of John Hanna, Mike Haynes, Armstorng, Tippett, Ben Coates, etc. Many more will come from the latest dynasty too (Vinatierri, Law, etc)

bobhk, if you and bozo are not one in the same, you’re his online identical twin. You and bozo both troll the Patriots threads, attack other posters personally, claim franchises with historical success as your own, and have a latent tendency to call out players and other posters manhood with pejorative terms (e.g., sissies). Do you not see the absurdity of a guy who claims San Francisco as his franchise exhibiting gay phobia? Where did you go to college, Northampton? Where do you summer, Provincetown? All great places but not places where you would blend well.

No man who truly respects football would ever attack Steve Grogan, Wes Welker, or Tom Brady but you and bozo do. They are the quintessential hard working competitors who gave/give their all when they step out on the field.

I might have been on three 49er threads during my PFT life but you and bozo stalk the Patriot threads.

If you want to act tough, go pick a fight in a leather bar in the Castro District.

@tigerlilac

I have been a niners fan ever since I started following football 24 years ago. Just because I root for a franchise that has history of success and you have a problem with it doesn't mean you dismiss it. Should I claim that you've started calling pats your own since 2001?
I have nothing to do with bozo but you think it's ok for ampats to personally attack bozo. But if someone else calls out ampats that's all wrong.
If you are having a hard time understanding this, I'd suggest go ask someone else to read the exchange between bozo and ampats to see if indeed ampats did not attack bozo.

I went to school at Cornell and live in the bay area so I have exposure to both kind of thinking. I think it's funny for a guy to talk about me having gay phobia to turn around and tell me to go pick a fight in a Castro bar. Ironic.

Really nice of you to judge me on what I read. I go to whichever threads I find interesting regardless of which team it is. For a person who appears to be self righteous, you sure are quick to judge. Who cares if you have not been a niners thread. You reading habits are not germane to this discussion.

Sure Welker, Brady, and Grogan are hard working. I didn't make a personal statement about their dedication to the game. However, Grogan would not someone that can be called as a rich tradition. I have even defended Brady on his greatness in the past.

Many pats have been extremely arrogant on this thread. On would think NFL was invented in 2001.

Those of you saying Randy Moss was declining on the pats, don't know what you are talking about. Moss went over 1000 yds and double digit TDs in all three of his full seasons. He even had 3 TDs with the pats in the four games he played in the 2010. To put that in perspective, only two Ravens receivers had more than three TDs all of last season.

WW is a gritty WR, but he won't get the rap Randy did, which is BS. Randy is a gangster and will tell you like it is. WW has always had a LB on him and will never completely change the game or opposing D like Randy did. It's a shame BB ships you out when you talk about a contract, ie..Randy, Seymour, etc....b/c they would've won the past 2 SB's with Randy no doubt. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. The Jets 2 yrs ago boxed them in w/o a deep threat, and the GMen did it this yr. You can say WW dropped a ball that would've changed the game, but it wouldn't have come down to it with a 20+ yd threat at WR. BB's ego stands in the way of keeping their teams together but no one admits it.

I am a niners fan. Although we have Alex Smith (who did not play all that bad last year), I take solace in the fact that we have had a very rich tradition in NFL (including to HOF QBs, and 5 shiny Lombardi trophies). I love Welker, especially after the knee comeback, but i dunno about his long term hopes going for a big contract in NE after that drop. I think it was a terribly thrown ball but he still couldve made the play. Another poster mentioned Samuel, who would still be a Pat if he held on to that pick in the 07 SB.

I'm a Steelers fan and even I am tired of how the Welker story is constantly being played out in the media.

I am NOT blaming Welker either; he has played outstanding and has earned the right to receive a contract in line with his performance. The Patriots simply will not pay it – they have a proven history you can be sure that Welker knows all too well of not taking care of their own. Considering that 31 other teams would reward Welker for his play and his professionalism, I cannot blame him for letting a little frustration creep out.

The problem is that everything he says will be taken and made into a bigger deal by the media than it really is – resulting in an inaccurate representation of Welker’s position and professionalism. There are enough ignorant and small minded people out there that want to base his contract off his inability to make a catch on a catchable but still badly thrown ball in the Super Bowl. It’s very simple, when conducting qualitative analysis you have to use a sample size that is large enough to accurately complete the analysis. One play does not accurately represent the contribution that Welker has provided to the Patriots offense since 2007. When he is gone in 2013, then the Patriots management will understand the full scope of what Welker meant to the Patriots offense.

Until then, expect a lot of opinion from a lot of people based on statements taken out of context and/or manipulated in articles such as 99% of what you find on PFT.

The truth is, none of us, including Florio, knows a damn thing about any of this. I remember just last year all this same discussion about Mankins, including the hater Bozo predicting he'd leave and go get money elsewhere... and look how that turned out.

Even if Welker only stays and plays through the franchise tag year, I have confidence in him to play hard and continue to be a good Patriot. Or, he signs what we all know will be a reasonable contract (or the Pats won't sign it.) Either way, the Pats win.

It’s almost like pats are organized crime family. Can’t speak outside. If you do, you get whacked.

That would have been funny…if it were true.

You know what all those results have in common?
They were all, to a man, SOLELY because of the value of the player to the team, not of personal grudges or likes.

-----
It's purely speculative as to the true value a player brings to that team, especially from arm chair philosophers like us. Having not won the superbowl in many years, one would say that the Pats have misjudged the usefulness of some players. Certainly on the D side where they went from dominant in the mid 2000s to a pathetic D last year. Could they not have used Seymour last season. He's played well in Oakland, as far as I know.

Welker is absolutely not, a product of the Patriot's system. When the Dolphins made him available, I was hoping that he would head back to the Chargers.

The idea that Welker is a product of the Patriot's system also feeds into the: "He is not worth ten million a year nonsense." Of course he is worth ten million a year,, the Patriots evidently don't want to pay it. If Brady had a sack, he would go to management on Welker's behalf.

And yes, Welker dropped that football pass in the SB. But let's be honest, Brady could have thrown a better ball than that.

1) Ty Law calls BB a liar in the press. BB tries several times after that to get Ty back. Ty was at the Pats Hall this past year at AFCC time as a welcomed guest of the Pats.

2) Mankins called Mr Kraft a liar in the press. Mankins gets a large contract after that.

3) Wilfork grumbles a little while in contract talks. Wilfork gets a nice contract.

4) Mayo says nothing, gets a nice contract well before his current deal expires.

5) Adalius Thomas runs his mouth, gets cut.

6) Randy Moss becomes a PITA, gets traded

7) Samuel complains, he leaves as a FA after his one franchise year.

You know what all those results have in common?

BB is stone cold...if you are of value and/or BB has no replacement for you at the moment, you can squawk a bit and you will still be wanted. If your contract exceeds your value to him, both in real value and replacement cost and you squawk? You're gone. Period. The money squawking is meaningless in and of itself.

Its not what he wants but its what they want to pay for Patriot players that are aging and may have only a year or two of big numbers left.

So - would you say that Welker seemed to hold good negotiating leverage "in both hands", but that he "inexplicably dropped" it?

As Gisele would say: Does Tommy not only have to set Welker up for a big contract, but have to negotiate the contract with the team and sign it for him as well? Does he have to sign the checks and deposit them in Welker's bank? Does he have to balance Welker's checkbook and do his taxes for him?

Is it not enough that he has to throw the ball and catch it too?
