I can't believe nobody's made any reefer cracks yet.

The Lions continuity on offense will make them unstoppable. Linehan is a great OC and the youngstars are going to get better and better. With the emergence of Titus Young, a running game and Broyles returning kicks....watch out.

All you haters out there have to admit the Lions are a feared opponent. No guaranteed W's anymore.

Bring it!

The Lions ALWAYS find a way to blow it. They've been doing it for 50+ years. I admit they're promising this year. Problem is they've had promising years before, and they ALWAYS find a way to blow it. Even the most die hard Lion fan, if he's being honest, will admit this. It's not always their fault, it could be injuries, players landing in jail, Coaches or players dying, it's always something. Sometimes it is their fault. Wayne Fontes proclaiming the "Rodney Peete in my quarterback" after Eric Kramer took them to the NFC Championship game the year before is a good example.

Until they prove otherwise it's not a question of "if" they'll blow it, but "how" they'll blow it.

mjinbrdgr says: May 20, 2012 2:04 PM Difference is McCarthy isn’t an idiot who just denies the facts . They drafted a corner and and linebackers and D lineman to help out the pass rush thus helping the DB’s

PS Stafford will not make it through 2 seasons in a row without a injury.

deny what facts

Let not talk about All the packer injuries in their secondary including Nick Collins being gone. your Db's took a step back. Woodson had to play damn near everywhere. oh and by the way how strong is your O line again? Packers have been really lucky Rodgers hasn't been hurt yet.. and you really trust Graham Harrell to run that offense

woodyg says: May 20, 2012 2:00 PM

The Lions secondary will once again prove to be an enormous weak area of the “D”. The Lions may very well have to score at a 30+ clip a game because their “D” is going to allow every team to stay close.

In the end, expect many games to be 35-31, 38-31, 41-35, etc. Unfortunately, the Lions will only be able to pull out 6 or 7 victories in 2012. Schwartz won’t be so confident when the Lions are out of the playoff race by game 12.

Did you know the World Champion Giants gave up more total yards (6022 to 5881) passing yards per game (255.1 to 239.4) and more points per game (25 to 24.2) than the Lions. What is came down to is their D Line played like it was supposed to down the stretch and the Lions D- Line didn't, Suh and Co. are the best unit on that D.they have play like it when it matters

Period, if Leshoure turns out to be the beast he's been called, and stays healthy, the Lions are going to be a very big force this year. And the CB's were not as bad as 3 games made them seem last year. When healthy they'll be just fine.

Dear Coach McCarthy,
I totally agree that your cornerbacks are fine. I’m’ sure they are all fine upstanding young men and will play great for you this year. I wouldn’t change a thing.

It's been said here a few times, but still bears repeating---this average age stat is so misleading and the people that publish it are lazy journalist. A better measurement would be "average skill position age" or "average impact/star player age". That would give you a better barometer of a team's window to win. Journalists, quit sitting on your tail and do the work.

Dear Coach Schwartz,
I totally agree that your cornerbacks are fine. I’m’ sure they are all fine upstanding young men and will play great for you this year. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Sincerely,

Aaron Rodgers

Oh and one of the reasons why the secondary was so bad was that damn Wide Nine defense. Philly played it and had the same problems as the Lions albeit because of their LB's. Namdi looked real bad last year too however

The gift = Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Suh.
The curse = They’re first round bloated contracts that account for the majority of their cap, causing them to not being able to sign a high calibre corner.

sigh the price of being bad under the old CBA. They needed still to draft corners as CB's are usually overpriced as FA's Look at Asante Samuel. he was a 4th round pick who when he wanted a ton of money in FA, The Pats let the Eagles overpay him

The Lions have some awesome blue chippers at key positions, but whenever I see Lions fans referencing this “team of the future” stuff, I always wonder if they have looked at the average age of the roster — it’s one of the older rosters in the league.

Certain guys like Backus Raiola Hanson and KVG push that median age up. and it's not like the difference in the oldest and youngest teams is 7-8 years. The Lions stars are young especially the QB
