In a move that could spark a fight under the CBA, a league source tells PFT that the Buccaneers have instructed tight end Kellen Winslow not to show up for Organized Team Activities as the team tries to trade him.

Per the source, however, a Steve McNair-style grievance is unlikely. Winslow will comply with the directive, and stay away from the offseason practice sessions.

The team’s reasoning for not wanting Winslow at practice is obvious. If he tears an ACL or pops an Achilles tendon, the Bucs will owe him his full $3.3 million salary for 2012.

Winslow is under contract for three more seasons, at base salaries of $3.3 million, $4.5 million, and $5.5 million, respectively. He likely would have to restructure the contract in order to get a deal done.

Several years ago, the Titans barred the late Steve McNair from the practice facility as trade efforts continued. McNair ultimately won a grievance securing his ability to work out with the team.

The Bucs informed Winslow over the weekend that the team will try to trade him.
