The Eagles have announced that third-round draft pick Nick Foles has signed his four-year rookie contract.

Foles, a quarterback from Arizona, went to Philadelphia with the 88th overall pick in the draft -- 14 picks before the Redskins drafted Kirk Cousins, who beat Foles out for the starting job at Michigan State, leading Foles to transfer to Arizona.

As a rookie in Philadelphia Foles will join a crowded depth chart at quarterback. Michael Vick is the starter, Mike Kafka and Trent Edwards are competing to be Vick’s backup, and undrafted rookie Jacory Harris is also on the roster, at least for now.

Eventually, Foles could become Vick’s successor as the Eagles’ quarterback. More likely, given the Eagles’ recent history, Foles will show just enough promise that the Eagles will be able to trade him to another team for a second-round draft pick.
