Here’s a breakdown of that trade: The Lions used the Vikings 1st round pick (No. 30) on tailback Jahvid Best and No. 128 on offensive tackle Jason Fox. Minnesota drafted cornerback Chris Cook at No. 34, defensive end Everson Griffen at No. 100 and tight end Mickey Shuler at No. 214. Cook’s legal troubles in the past, he’ll start for MN. Griffen played last year and has starter ability. Best may never see the field again. Fox appeared in 4 games in 2010 and didn’t play a single game last year (injured knee, broken foot). Nice work Mayhew.

As for the Roy Williams trade, the selections acquired were great but, once again, Mayhew blew it with the selections: TE Brandon Pettigrew (1st round, 20th overall)
WR Derrick Williams (3rd round, 82nd overall)
RB Aaron Brown (6th round, 192nd overall). Only Pettigrew has played well, and that’s mostly due to the fact that Megatron draws so much attention that Pettigrew, who was considered too slow to get open against man coverage, is able to run free.

The 2011 draft is yet to be seen. Titus had a productive year, Fairley and Leshore should end up being starters this year, we will see.
Where you are wrong is your assessment of previous drafts.
2009 – Stafford, Pettigrew, Delmas, Levy – ALL STARTERS. Also selected Sammie Lee HIll and Aaron Brown. Still on the squad
2010 – SUHHH, Jahvid Best, Spievey, Willie Young(7th round) every one of these guys contributed last year.
Mayhew knows what he is doing, he has found gems in late rounds and selected wisely with his earlier picks.

Young tossed, not threw, the ball at Jenkins. It was stupid and unnecessary, and technically the ball hit Jenkins in the face, but he did not punch Jenkins in the face (which is what you are implying).

As for Young and Delmas fighting in camp … back in the days of coaches like Buddy Ryan, this kind of thing was encouraged. It starts off as offense vs the defense and then changes to us against the world. If MDS had actually played a real sport (golf doesn’t count), he’d know this.

Detroit keeps this up, they WILL be 1-6 in October, down in the cellar with the Vikings, while the Bears and Packers fight for the NFC North crown…And to any Lions fan who persists in trashing Brandon Marshall over character issues, (or any opposing player, for that matter)…Please shut up now.

Mayhew took over in Dec. 2008. He had the #1 overall pick in 2009 (again, Stafford) and the #2 pick in 2010 (Suh). Kind of hard to screw things up when you’re picking at the top of the draft.

When the Lions’ record improved, Mayhew had a chance to show he had the Midas touch when he didn’t have the 1st or 2nd overall pick. The results? Not good. Mayhew took Fairley, Young, and Leshore with the first three picks in 2011. Leshore never saw the field and Fairley wasn’t much better, and they were both busted for marijuana. As for Young, he played ok then sucker punched a teammate. Nice draft class.

Face it, your team’s success is due to the ‘luxury’ of having stunk so bad for so long that you eventually hit on the players selected with the top picks in the draft. Congrats.

Again, neither was right in the matter as it ultimately displayed the poorest of sportsmanship. That is all.

Calivin Johnson and Cherilus were not picked by the current GM, so you obviously don’t know what you are talking about.

Stafford wasn’t a slam dunk by many critics. They thought he was inaccurate and overrated. Some thought Aaron Curry was a better pick, and even others though Sanchez was the better QB.

It does not totally mess you up, but it DOES slow you down mentally and emotionally. There is no way these guys are performing at their maximum even if it has been a week or two since they indulged in the wacky weed.
