Redskins’ receivers rave about Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin III, Rex Grossman AP

The Redskins began organized team activities today, and the wide receivers are loving what they’re seeing from rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III.

“He’s been doing everything that we expect,” Santana Moss said. “He’s looking sharp. He doesn’t look like a rookie right now. I’ve seen him run a lot, but I see him throw the ball and it’s like pinpoint — right there, on the spot. You don’t have to do too much, and he’s giving us a chance to win every time.”

Pierre Garcon, whom the Redskins signed in free agency with the hopes of seeing him become Griffin’s No. 1 receiver for years to come, said he was impressed that Griffin already seems to have a good grasp of the Redskins’ offense.

“He’s doing a lot of great stuff,” Garcon said. “He knows the playbook, he’s calling the right plays, he’s putting guys in position, he’s making the throws on time, and he has a great, strong arm. He’s been like a veteran.”

Griffin said he has worked hard studying the playbook but he has also been reminding himself not to overthink things.

“Sometimes in football, you’ve just got to go out and play,” Griffin said.

So far, his teammates have liked the way he’s going out and playing.

Should we put the over/under on comments about how egotistic Griffin is based on press conference remarks by other people at 87?

Look closely at just how incredibly quick the ball comes zipping out of this guy’s right-hand. Is it outrageous to say he might already have the quickest release in the NFL?

I’m not joking..not even a little bit. JUST WATCH HIM THROW.

  18. duncanthecat says: May 21, 2012 6:34 PM

  22. laeaglefan says: May 21, 2012 6:57 PM

Considering who they have to compare him to (Rex Grossman & John Beck), I wouldn’t get too carried away by the Redskins’ enthusiasm.

  29. janvanflac says: May 21, 2012 7:31 PM

No doubt RGIII is the real deal but i don’t care how good you are this is the NFL no QB can succeed behind a swiss cheese OL and mediocre skill position players.

They traded away so many draft picks to get him that it’s going to be a long time before they can build a decent roster.

  30. hulkhogansays says: May 21, 2012 7:32 PM

    ———————————————–

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. The Colts may have less talent, but the Redskins play the AFC North, NFC South plus the NFC East twice this year. Honestly I think it’s a push.. As for RG3, everything looks good when you’re throwing in shorts and tshirts. It’s a totally different story mid season when you’re playing in a division with arguably the top pass rushing teams in the NFL. Still wish RG3 the best though, he’s gonna make the game exciting to watch.

  32. screenpass says: May 21, 2012 7:41 PM

What a shock! I fully expected them to totally pick this guy apart and throw him under the bus publicly right away.

I mean, if there’s one thing I know, its that Pro Football Players will ALWAYS be 100% honest regarding the #2 pick in the draft during his first week of OTAs

That about settles it for me. FIRST BALLOT HALL OF FAMER.

  33. pantherpro says: May 21, 2012 7:52 PM

RG 3 You’re no Cam Newton. Baylor? You’re kidding right? Cam is going to dominate you and the Skins! Nothing wrong with being 2nd best black QB!

  34. jeai757 says: May 21, 2012 8:08 PM

Yes Robert Griffin III is in fact the best qb redskins has had in a long while. And yes Robert Griffin III has a very fast release. And yes he is arguably the fastest qb in the nfl. And yes he is that good. So all you haters get off his nfl planters peanuts. And don’t hate because your team has got a wack @&$) qb. Robert Griffin III will not win the Super Bowl this year. But playoffs here we come. Hail the the redskins hail rg3. Braves on the warpath fight for all d.c. Httrs. HAITERS!!!!!

  35. jeai757 says: May 21, 2012 8:16 PM

Ooh panther pro. Lol. Rg3 has sold more jerseys than your team has sold tickets. Lol. Wack panthers. Maybe if you get some better receivers. Ooh and a defense. Maybe y’all will see the playoffs this year. Just throwing that out there. lets see who makes it to the playoffs first. Redskins or panthers. Ummmmm ummmmm redskins I think. Yes you are right about one thing. Cam newton has a whole lot of talent. But he’s surrounded by players who don’t have half of what newton has. Ok maybe a little more talent. But then then again everyone loves them figg newtons lol.

Ooh and dare I say. NFC east has the best best qbs. Let’s see first and 4 most. Rg3 go skins. Cowboys Tony romo who just had a heck of a season. eagles Micheal Vick a beast. And last but not least mr Super Bowl manning. Giants. The NFC east is going to be a beast this year so I hope all y’all have your A game on. Because we are going to have the best record as far as NFC east vs whoever. Say NFC south or afc north. You get the picture

  38. stonecld33 says: May 21, 2012 8:34 PM

Throwing passes in madden doesn’t count. Moss and garçon need to put down the controllers

  39. wethog66 says: May 21, 2012 8:44 PM

As a Skins fan it is nice to read quotes like this, but it is T-shirt and shorts time. The quotes on Griffin after the week 1 game vs NO is all that counts to me. Got a while to go until that point.

    @janvan
    So many draft picks??
Do you mean two 1st and a 2nd? I think we will have plenty of draft picks to build a solid roster. Plus the 2nd we lost this year, is now Jarvis Jenkins.

  42. jeai757 says: May 21, 2012 8:50 PM

  43. hcdbus says: May 21, 2012 8:54 PM

    —————————————————-

It proves that he is ahead of the learning curve that Shanahan set for him. He has a very good defense and some WRs to throw to. He is in a system that fits him perfectly and he has all the ability in the world so he should succeed. The Skins will win more than 5 games this season.

You’re right — no one cares about Peyton’s rookie year. But it still happened and he played pretty well despite the record (having Faulk and Harrison helped though). In fact, that was something that he could build on: The next season they won 13 games and got a first round bye.

Not saying that will be RG3 because his circumstance is different.

    ————————————————–

I don’t recall any self respecting Skins fan expecting much out of Beck. Me personally, I thought Beck’s potential was capped at the Grossman level, and that was being generous.

    Nice try though, troll.

  47. caps247 says: May 21, 2012 9:04 PM

No doubt RGIII will do well this season, but if he does make mistakes (what rookie doesn’t?), then it wouldn’t matter a few years from now. The haters will be calling him a bust, etc. but do we still care about Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, or Brett Favre’s rookie years?

No. Remember that Brett Favre’s first ever NFL play resulted in an interception by, you know who, the Super Bowl winning 1991-1992 Skins.

What I’m trying to say is honestly, who cares if RG3 does bad during this season? Some of the greatest NFL QB’s of today have started in some jokes of seasons.

Give RG3 time to develop, he will be more than amazing in the years to come with all his talent. Don’t jump off the bandwagon the moment he makes a mistake and loses a couple games.

  48. peytonsneck18 says: May 21, 2012 9:06 PM

IRG3 will be joing the nfl concussion lawsuit, when he gets his bel rung several times this year in the nfc east defenses, why rave about this guy and put him on a throne, when its OTA’s throwing in shorts and t-shirts and no real defenses chasing him , thats like saying Luke Walton was one of the greatest shooters back in the day at Lakers practice, but he rode the pine all game tho, ………..all fail to the redskins!!!

Not exactly going out on a limb there. The Colts have A LOT less talent than the Skins.

    ———————————–

That’s untrue. Kerry Collins was mentally retired. Curtis Painter was so inept that he made the Colts look as though they had no business being in the NFL. Dan Orlovsky came in and won 2 games. It was really the QB position.

Add on to the fact that the Colts practically gave up on the season once they heard Manning wasn’t going to play. There is some talent there, and they still have vets on their team in Reggie Wayne, Freeney and Mathis. At least those guys have a SB ring to show for their troubles.

  50. skinsfantom says: May 21, 2012 9:09 PM
