whoa buddy, sounds like someone’s got a little, no a LOT of sand in their “verginia”.
Look I understand you’re jealous, you probably come from an uncultured boring city that no one wants to visit. You probably haven’t even been to New Orleans.
There are two kinds of people in this world, New Orleans people and Las Vegas people. People who love New Orleans love authentic and genuine. People who love Las Vegas love manufactured and generic.
You sir, are generic.
----------------------------------------------------------

How do you get Las Vegas from Charlotte, NC. I mean, bro, you just went on a ridiculous tangent somewhere in outer space. Why don't you go have another bloody mary and put your shoddy Miles Davis CD on repeat, Mr. New-Orleans-is-a-mecca-of-tourism-and-football-delusional-assh*le. Bro, nobody, and I mean nobody wants to spend money riding or flying to that cajun stinkhole-armpit of the South city to see the greatest sporting event of all time. Exactly how many Super Bowls had been played in New Orleans prior to Katrina? One or two? One or two too many, I say. I've been there, dude. It sucks, and everybody I know agrees. The only reason you guys get these events is because the NFL feels sorry that you live in a FEMA outhouse and want to make you feel better about yourself and your morbid franchise ('Aint's). Exhibit 1 - You alienate your franchise player because your owner ridiculous owner won't come off a measly 3 million dollars! You folks should be ashamed of yourselves, because once Brees is gone, your franchise goes into the tank again for another 30 years while Cam Newton dominates your butts for the next 15 years! Get some.

Australian Rules got rid of its all star game about 10 years ago and nobody missed it. They tried a range of formats to try and give the game context and it failed because players looked for any excuse not to play. They even tried a weird hybrid of Irish Gaelic football and Aussie rules that nobody understood. However tonight is the first game of the three game of the State of Origin series in Rugby League. League is played in two states only and the best of each state plays each other. There is history and rivalry with both sides evenly matched. You have the spectacle of guys from the same club playing against each other and sometimes getting into fights with each other. Players sit out club games to be right for Origin. I don't follow Rugby League but I don't miss Origin. The NFL will never have a context like that so they should just give up on the game. The only context I could see that would get NFL players excited about an all star game would be if it was based on former college conference alignment. An ex SEC vs ex Big 12 players might work. Call it the pro Cotton Bowl.

I totally agree. That’s fine, NO can host big events. But, people are tired of traveling to that crime-ridden, rif-raff infested town to try and enjoy a sporting event with their family. I think the people of Louisiana have had enough help from the NCAA and NFL, revitalizing their tourism or whatever the hell they are trying to do. Put these events in a great city like Orlando, Los Angeles, or Charlotte (my hometown, we are starving for help with our tourism and could use the economic boom that comes with a Super Bowl.) Do that instead of letting New Orleans get all the love. So what they got hit by a hurricane. So did we in Charlotte when Hugo came through in the 80′s. We didn’t get any Super Bowl or Final Fours. Whats up with that?

I love that the Saints are the class of the NFL, and they can't even take care of their franchise QB. I say leave 'em, Drew Brees! How is it, that NO can host a Super Bowl and Final Four every year (Tom Benson owns the Superdome). But they don't have the money to pay Drew Brees? Sounds fishy and corrupt to me.

NFL players play hard in preseason exhibition games, especially the third game. Why not do the same in the Pro Bowl? It's a postseason exhibition game, except with all-stars. If vets are scared, let rookies and first year players who are hungry play.

Or better yet, reduce all-star numbers and have those who want to play, play against the Canadian Football League all-stars. I bet the CFL guys would go out there with a chip on their shoulders.

Meanwhile, the NFL should refund everyone who attended the game in Hawaii last January, including the city of Honolulu. They deserved better. That glorified "love-fest" was worse than a touch football game. And keep the game in Hawaii. That's what make it exciting.

The NFL won't admit it but the future NFL may look like last year's Pro Bowl as lawsuits pile up and potential liabilities add up. One could argue that the union and league should better care for its alumni; even so, there will always be people willing to sue. If these suits turn out to have validity, and I'm dubious they will, we'll see a dramatic decrease in permissible hitting, and a product like the Pro Bowl. Sad but true.
By the way, they should turn the Pro Bowl into a flag football game. At least then we'd have no expectation of a tackle football game while still showcasing some skills.

Wouldn't it be great to finally end this fiasco rather than keeping a game that NOBODY wants on life support? Why? Because there are still a few dollars the NFL can eek out of it? The fans aren't interested, the players certainly aren't interested. Why not as some have suggested have star players gather in several "feats of strength" exhibitions during the SB week, watch the stars play a flag football game in their team jerseys and do autograph sessions as part of the week's festivities leading up to the SB. I'll bet you could put some paid asses in seats at the Superdome with a flag football game of star players, with little danger in getting them injured in the bargain.

I hate to say it, but I agree with @kappy32. It gets old hearing about how the 'Aints saved New Orleans, resurrected a city, how Drew Brees is a hero, how winning the Lombardi Trophy* united a city, etc.
Don't get me wrong, Katrina was a disaster and my heart still goes out to the people. The real heros aren't the millionaire pro athletes; they are the law enforcement, military and everyday people who saved countless lives.

Let me guess… It’s to revitalize the economy in New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina? Oh, wait, that was ONLY 7 YEARS AGO! Unfortunately, Chris Collinsworth will not let us forget every single time Drew Brees & the Saints play on NBC.

Sorry that our tragedy annoyed you. Much apologies, massa.

I'm going to use this Pro Bowl post do force my opinion of the perfect NFL season schedule on all of you:

First, I'm for an 18-game schedule. This means you have your home-and-home with your division opponents, and you play everyone in 1 division of the opposite conference, and everyone in 2 of the 3 remaining divisions in your conference.

To address safety and the grind of 2 extra games, expand the rosters to 60, all of which can be dressed on game day. Have 3 injured reserve lists - 15-day, 42-day, and rest of season. No one on any injured lists counts against the 60-man roster.

Start the season the second week of September as we do now. Everyone plays 9 games in a row, then play the Pro Bowl the second week of November. Then there is no NFL for the third week in November. Then, Thanksgiving Day kicks off week 10. Everyone plays 9 weeks in a row, ending the season the third week in January. Have your 3 weeks of conference playoffs, and the Super Bowl two weeks after conference championships, which means the Super Bowl is played the last Sunday in February.

This gives everyone a week or 2 off halfway through the schedule, plays the Pro Bowl in the middle of the season like all other sports, having 60 players available instead of 45 decreases injury risk - as does the 3-tiered IR, every team in each division plays the exact same opponents, the open week the weekend before Thanksgiving is rivalry weekend in college football, so we still get our football fix.

And I agree with others - increase the Pro Bowl payoff, with a large discrepancy between winners and losers.

Pro Bowl? Pro Bowl? Are we still talking about the Pro Bowl? The Pro Bowl is quickly becoming like Brett Favre. We all know it's time for it to go away...we ALL know that, but for some reason it just keeps hanging around becoming more and more a shell of its original self until it ultimately just is an embarrassment. I thought that's where we were last year. I guess not.
