Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton has heard the talk that his arm strength is a problem, and he says it’s a lot of bunk.

Asked about comments from Greg Cosell of NFL Films indicating that the Bengals had reservations about Dalton’s arm strength, Dalton responded not by saying he has a strong arm, but by saying there’s a lot more to playing the quarterback position than having a strong arm.

Arm strength is one thing, there’s a lot to throwing,” Dalton told the Cincinnati Enquirer. “It’s timing, consistency and making sure everyone is on the same page. I’m going to keep working but I don’t think arm strength is an issue.”

Dalton says that he showed what kind of quarterback he is during his rookie season, when he threw for 20 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions while starting 16 games for a team that made the playoffs.

“I’m comfortable with it. Everyone knows what they are going to get out of me,” Dalton said. “I don’t think it held us back last year and I don’t think it is going to hold me back in my career.”

Arm strength didn’t appear to hold Dalton back as a rookie.
