Bears sign Nate Collins

The Bears have maxed out their roster at 90 players by adding another veteran defensive tackle to the mix.

Nate Collins had 10 tackles in 12 games with the Jaguars last season, but might be better known for getting arrested for marijuana possession in February. The Jaguars rescinded the exclusive rights free agent tender they placed on Collins a short time later, making him available to every team in the league. The Seahawks took a look, but he remained unemployed until the Bears decided to bring him on.

The Bears have recently signed John McCargo and DeMario Pressley at defensive tackle as well and all three players will be fighting for backup spots opened up by the departures of Amobi Okoye and Anthony Adams. There’s also been talk about the Bears bringing Tommie Harris back into the mix, something that would make for an even more heated battle for spots this summer.

With Collins in the fold, the Bears will have to cut a player in order to add Harris or any other free agents.
