To clarify the situation here. Joiner and a teammate were stiffed by some students that supplied them with weed. They went over to their apartment to scare them and get their money back. Situation got out of hand and the players were stupid and the prosecutor threw the book at them.

Joiner’s atty pleaded to allow Joiner to finish college and get his life together before serving his sentence. The court granted that request.

Joiner had no other incidents and graduated from Arkansas State while also earning all-conference honors. By all accounts he’s been a model citizen in the 4.5 years since the incident when he was 18.

Now, he is paying his debt to society. He turned his life around and he’ll be out in six months.

It’s a story of redemption and a kid who made a bad decision actually picking himself up and doing well by all accounts.

Sounds to me in this instance, the court properly evaluated the circumstances and this appears to be a positive outcome. So why again are you bashing the justice system over this particular case?

These kids need to understand what a privilege it is to play a game and make so much money. Too many of these people feel that since they’re an athlete, they can do whatever the hell they want to do.
I think that there should be a rule that if you F up in college, you aren’t allowed to play football professionally.
And if you F up while playing in the NFL, you should not be allowed back in.
It may seem harsh to some, but if you set an example, how many of these kids do you think will keep acting like this, when their future fortunes are at stake?
If you worked at a large business firm, bringing in a six figure salary, and you commit a crime such as robbery, assault, possession of marijuana, etc. , you would most likely be fired. Then, what other firm is going to hire you? This football game is actually a professional business. They need to start cracking down on the useless tools that don’t see it that way.
It’s my own opinion, and we all know that money rules, so this will probably (and unfortunately) never change. These idiots leave a stain on an otherwise fun and profitable business.
I say weed them out (no pun intended) and keep them out.

It was obviously dumb of the team to sign this guy, but it does no harm outside of tarnishing public perception, of which I can guarantee you Mike Brown is clueless.

The Bengals just like giving folks a shot. Most times it is a zero risk situation. Undrafted free agent with no signing bonus. If he gets arrested, no loss. If he doesn’t and is a special teams beast – no risk win.

Sad that something stupid he did when he was a kid 4 years ago comes back to haunt him.

So, he was convicted in 2008. A plea deal allowed him to not go to jail until he graduated. Knowing this, the Bengals still signed him.

How did it take over 5 years to throw this piece worthless trash to society in prison? He should never have been given the PRIVILEGE of getting a free education and play ball. More evidence that this country’s priorities are in sports/entertainment instead of justice.

Oh, and for those whining about picking on the poor wittle Bungles, perhaps your team wouldn’t be in the wrong limelight if you stopped signing criminals and blights on a civilized society.
