Cortland Finnegan has left Tennessee for St. Louis, and Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner thinks he’s the man to replace Finnegan.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reports that Verner has been working mostly in the slot position previously played by Finnegan during Organized Team Activities, and Verner is also talking about being the same kind of tough, physical presence that Finnegan was.
“I want to play inside,” Verner said. “I like being inside, being with the linebackers, getting to blitz and guard some of the slot guys because that is where the ball goes most the time with the Wes Welkers and the great tight ends — they like to work those areas especially on third down. I would love to be that guy like Cortland was last year.”
Verner sees the departure of Finnegan as an opportunity for the rest of the players in the secondary to step up.
“I’ll do whatever they ask me to do,” Verner said, “but this is a great chance for everybody.”
