Most “safe” picks bust because they never amount to a good player. Take Aaron Curry for example. He’s well below average. Eugene Monroe, Jake Long (who is pretty good, but not #1 overall good), etc.

Ultra high end guys sometimes don’t develop, but “safe” prospects rarely become more than role players.

What vekin1648 was pointing out was the fact that when the Jets traded up to pick Revis, they gave the Panthers a 1st rounder and a 2nd with which the Panthers picked Beason and Ryan Kalil. Kalil is a 2011 All Pro and Beason has been an All Pro as well. So, the Panthers came out quite well on that trade. The Jets you mentioned came in separate drafts – his comment obviously flew over your head, bud.

Jets got Reavis. Panthers got All Pro Ryan Kalil and three time Pro Bowler Jon Beasom. I’d take that any day.

Both teams have good LB core( carolina needs to stay healthy). Skins have a better Dline.

And deehypno, Beast was 2nd to Willis in DROY in 2007. All pro in 2008, pro bowl in 2009. When Thomas Davis went down in 2010, he voluntarily switched positions – which impacted his production – and was lost to an achilles tear in 2011. He’s on track physically to make a full return in 2012 at his best position. He’s easily a top 5 ILB in the league, and some would say top 2. He knows something about linebacker talent, so I wouldn’t be so quick to discount anything he says.

But both Luck and RGIII are going to be better QB’s than Cam so what’s you point Jon? I say it’s 50/50 if Cam Newton ever plays in a playoff game and I doubt he ever wins one.
