Remember when 20 fans got arrested at the Christmas game between the Packers and Bears last season? 49 were ejected. The yahoo out of control ownership of the Packers setting a poor example.

And WHAT does this have to do with Nick Fairly and the Lions? Please Viking fans..get a life,or a hobby , or even better, how about a girlfreind so you can stop obsessing over the Packers and the Bears?

noeffinway says:

I have lost all faith in Fairley after this latest screw up.
But before you all start trashing the Lions take a look at the number of arrests YOUR team has since the year 2000:

Vikings – 38 arrests
Packers – 17
Bears – 21
Lions – 12
____________________________

SOURCE, please.

Are those JUST arrests? Or arrests AND convictions?

I can't speak for the other teams, but I can say this about the Bears, at least:

For 21 arrests, you probably have 21 EX-Bears.

(Tank Johnson, Cedric Benson, Sam Hurd, etc.)

In other words, a proud, respectable, honorable and well-meaning franchise like the Bears -- one which values tradition, character, and reputation -- actually makes an EFFORT to draft players with good character.

That's not to say they don't believe in or give second chances (Brandon Marshall, both Tank and Benson were given 2nd chances), but a team like the Bears doesn't IGNORE (and by ignoring, condone) such lousy classless criminal character.

A team like the Lions, on the other hand -- doesn't even ATTEMPT to factor in character when drafting; they just don't give a rip, because it's about the talent and the talent ONLY.
(The Vikings and Cowboys have been similar in recent years).

A franchise that cultivates a climate of scumbaggery (starting with Schwartz and Suh) and actively drafts players IN SPITE of their obvious character flaws will ultimately get exactly what it deserves. Trouble.

You can sell your soul to the Devil, but it won't get you to the promised land (Super Bowl).

This did not happen in Detroit, he was back in Alabama, it is NOT a reflection for all of Detroit or Michigan. Teams occasionally use babysitters for rookies but this knucklehead should know going into his 2nd season that this could cost him is spot on the roster. The Lions are getting better and would be much better off without him, but PLEASE don’t try to connect the entire state with one bad Auburn apple!!
====================================

It's more of a reflection on the individual and the Detroit Lions and the character of their organization.

As far as the city of Detroit goes, DUI's are the least of the problem there and in a lot of other big cities.

I can hear it now, "this young man has come back from much controversy early in his career..blah, blah, blah.". Now granted he will not win it with the Lions, well because they are my Lions and any TRUE Lions fan knows we will never win the big one.
@billhicks.......

Perhaps if Barry were HALF the team player, he would have blocked and spared his qb's a few injuries/gave them time to block.

Perhaps if Barry weren't a quitter, he would have stayed to help Detroit become competitive and win a ring?

Perhaps if Barry didn't spend all his time dancing and complaining, he'd maybe have a few rings like Emmitt?

Emmitt is the all time rushing king. He's a 3 time Super Bowl Champion (all 3 achieved during Barry's prime in the league).

Barry was the dancing king on the field. Emmitt waited until he was retired to work toward becoming a star dancer.

... I will give Barry a pass on the 3 rings though. His team would have had to beat Emmitt's in the NFC championship, and with Emmitt being a COMPLETE player, it would not have happened.

For the record, Emmitt Smith couldn’t sniff Barry Sanders’ jock. If Sanders had had the O-Line blocking for him that Emmitt Smith always had when he was in Dallas, he would have put the all-time rushing record out of reach, and then retired.

@billhicks...please stop. It's not Emmitt's fault Barry ran backwards half the time. Couldn't catch, couldn't block, couldn't make his team a winner. Emmitt is the all time rushing king and worlds better player than Barry. Choke on that.

For the Lionesses claiming the Lions have very few arrests since 2000 compared to the rest of the division, that's only because regular Lions draft picks only spend a couple years in the NFL.
In my opinion the Head Coach breeds this type of behavior....zero tolerance unless you are a star player....then we will look the other way.
So glad the Vikings Speilman passed on this clown. Character means a lot now a days....and Lions last 2 top draft picks have both been lacking it. What a waste of potential. We won't see him until week 8.

FYI for the guy who commented on Fairley's eyes looking like he had smoked pot (and the hoards who gave the post a thumbs up), that is the way his eyes always look. He has what I call "sleepy eyes". Lots of people have eyes that look half closed all the time. Nick is one of those people. While I knew when he was at Auburn that he wasn't brilliant, I did think he had enough common sense to stay out of this kind of trouble. He has lots of childhood friends in Mobile, that he would probably be better off staying away from. They aren't as talented and haven't had the breaks he has had. Unfortunately, just like water, behavior often seeks the lowest level. Instead of Nick raising them up when he is with them, they drag him down. They don't have nearly as much to lose. I think someone, like maybe his coach, should intervene and soon.

I had him pegged as a bust. Just not sure if he will make the bust hall of fame or not, too early to tell.
Last year he came to camp so overweight and out of shape his ankles couldn't support him. Once he finally did get to play he was so out of shape he couldn't stay on the field much.

Maybe he did this deliberately on advice of his agent. If he gets a four game suspension, he gets more time to get the fat off???? Who knows.
Obviously his mind set isn't on football and winning.

Remember when the Bengals got good in the early 2000's, but imploded because of all their off-field problems? Well the Lions are quickly becoming that same team. Problem is instead of the head coach being part of the solution(Marvin Lewis), their coach is part of the problem. After Jim Schwartz's lack of composure last year, he's set a horrible example for his team, and shown them that it's okay to break the rules.

Curious to hear what the owner of the Lions has to say about this and the other arrests. These players represent the Detriot Lions and the NFL. Maybe it's time to make a example of one of these guys. Don't wait for Godell to take action, suspend the player for a number of games without pay or some other punishment that will send a message.
