People who want to judge him based on his HC tenure don’t really even deserve to have their opinions acknowledged. Quick, go tell me how Le Beau and Capers did as head coaches! Then check out Buddy Ryan’s head coaching record.

Greg Williams was heavily overrated LONG before all the bounty stuff. Decent coordinator, sure. The guy was far from a rockstar, though. Spags learned from the legendary Jim Johnson, and Steve’s blitz packages are far more diverse, creative and effective than Williams. Anybody can be really aggressive, and just dial up a bunch of zero blitzes and roll the dice that they’ll get home often enough. It’s something else to consistently outscheme the opponent, and find ways to generate a lot of effective pressure without always compromising your coverages. Spagnuolo is on a different level than Williams, and will be a significant upgrade in the long term if they can get him some talent to work with in the front four besides the aging Will Smith.
