As is well known, the Steelers customarily don’t bust open the bank on free agent signings.

But we did land James Farrior at a reasonable price, and he has kicked some major tail. Great leader too – love the guy.

A couple of other sweet FA signings at fair contracts include where we landed OC Jeff Hartings off of the Lions and scored FS Ryan Clark off the Redskins. All great moves — major credit to Colbert.

He had one good year in the last 3 years. Terrible move by the Steelers to give him an extension back at that time. But he was a good free agent signing and he did provide the Steelers with some high quality years early on.

But his time is done. He was flat out awful in 3rd down pass coverage situations.

Still having trouble thinking of that linebacking corps without James Farrior. He’s been a mainstay of the team for so long, and as others have mentioned, a great player, leader, and class act.

I’ve seen him slipping and know 37 is past time for even such a well-conditioned linebacker to retire. But the thumbs down he’s getting here prove our tacky rivals still find him threatening and remember the fierceness he brought to a great defense. For a linebacker, going out feared is sign of respect. We love you, James.

James was a solid leader, great football player, and someone that never got in trouble or caused trouble. So glad he was on the Steelers. A real class act. Best of luck James!

As I’ve said about a lot of veteran players. He is still, even at his age, better than a lot of starting LB in the league. I believe he can go 2 more seasons, but I think most of aging players don’t like the idea of suiting up for a different team. I totally understand that.

As most knowledgable NFL fans know, the Steelers have never played much in the free agent market. When they do, it’s usually for a solid and classy player who is a good pickup.

James is arguably perhaps the very best free agent they have ever signed. He has provided many years of outstsnding play and great leadership. He will be missed by team and fans alike.
