Couple of thngs. The players with legal issues had no impact in 2011. Culbreath IR, fairley bad foot/ankle and leshoure never even touch the field. And Suh wasnt drunk driving he was speeding. And for all you bringing up the handshake, that wasnt the reason he went off it was whatever jim. “mature” harbaugh said to him after that that jim schwarts got all fired up about. Look at the video and get a informed opinion. And for the guy talking about the CBA guidelines i agree and how is a coach supposed to not only supervise a grown man but also punish him when there not even getting paid. They get game checks. And the lions have matt stafford and calvin johnson and titus young and if best can stay healthy he is a beast not to mention the d-line and tulloch who is considered one of tbe best mike linebackers in the game. Does anybody remember what led to the handshake? Earlier in the game cameras picked up Schwartz mocking and yelling at Harbaugh for not knowing the professional rules when the Niners coach tried to challenge an unchallengable play. Karma is hard to swallow.

I need to understand this so we can get this back to the coach and let him and other coaches know. Also, please provide your solution to how to handle this situation so the Lions can address this properly, under the guidelines of the CBA.

A couple of observations/thoughts:

1. How many of you clamoring for the Lions to discipline these players can actually articulate the terms of the CBA that govern what disciplinary actions teams may take against players, and when they may take it, and what discipline is reserved solely for the league. It is my understanding that the new CBA reserves the great majority of discipline for the league, and restricts what actions may be taken by a team. This is particularly true for substance abuse issues. The point is, if you do not know how the CBA restricts what the Lions may or may not do, then your criticism of them is very uninformed.

2. Was anyone posting on this site in the room with Schwartz when he addressed the issue with Fairley and the team? If not, then any opinion of what Schwartz did or did not do is very uninformed.

3. Can anyone criticizing Schwartz and the Lions name a coach and a team facing similar circumstances and articulate how they handled the situation better than what Schwartz and the Lions are doing? If not, then you really have nothing of value to add here.

4. All comments about the Schwartz/Harbaugh handshake are old, tired, boring, over-used, worn out, not witty, not funny, unclever, predictable, and redundant.

Its a joke that people on here think that how the coach acts the players are going to follow suit. these are grown men, I think they will act how they want. This isnt little league where the players are looking up to the coach as a role model or guidance counselor. And for people ripping on Schwartz for the hand shake thing is ridiculous. If this happened to any other coach in the league I guarantee you majority of the other coaches would have acted in the same manner. Scenario: you just lost with seconds left, opposing coach jumping around like he won the super bowl, runs up to you slaps your hand like your on his team, strong pat on the back and pushes you out of his way. I think coaches like, Bill Cowher, Bill Parcells, John Gruden, Vince Lombardi, Mike Tomlin and Mike Ditka would have acted in similar fashion, oh and all of these men have won the super bowl.

the worst part of all of this is that i promise if fairley or leshore get kicked out there will be 28 other teams wanting them. teams like the cowboys who love the dumb a$$e$. so its really all up to the players to get their head out of their asses… and last part, these are supposed to be fully grown adults graduated from college. the coach cannot parent them in the offseason.

I don’t really feel like “handshake gate” was any different than what Jim Leyland or any other manager does to an empire on a daily basis. A little yellin’, a little chest bump; we have a passionate coach. I’m thrilled that my football coach is not a soft spoken man named Lovie.

Please continue to refer to us as the Bad Boys of football. The last 2 eras that Detroit teams were referred as that won 3 NBA championships.

For the record… I am THRILLED my QB was lifting kegs over his head, partying his ass off… Joey Blueskies didn’t quite work out.

This 2011 draft class was getting all their mistakes out now and anything they provide will be a bonus to a Lions team the only really got production from Titus Young, who doesn’t appear to have a drug or alcohol problem, he just has a little man syndrome.

21 of 22 starters are back… and if LeShoure, Fairley, Reiff, Broyles, Bentley or a Lewis do ANYTHING, we are gunna be a team you would probably rather not play.

What’s interesting is that the entire league (and fans) knew that these guys had baggage before the Lions decided to draft them. What amazes me is that these teams spend all that money and time investigating these guys, digging into their backgrounds and after all of that, they still draft players with sketchy backgrounds. You can’t get upset when the guys that were dirtbags before you signed them to contracts are still acting like idiots after the money is in hand. At some point, teams are going to have start taking responsibility for the people that they decide to hire and start to push themselves away from the table when it comes to putting knuckle heads on their teams, regardless of their talent level. This kind of continuous negative exposure can’t be good for the NFL’s business model over the long haul

Schwartz is the next Gregg Williams. He got his team to this level by building a nasty and dirty team that tries to injure on every play. Way worse than the Saints. Now he can’t control these guys at all.

They have tremendous talent, but they have to settle down.

More Niner fans writing that Schwartz needs to lead by example. Funny stuff. This means I have to write that as a 42 year old man Jim Harbaugh was arrested for a DUI. As a player he broke his hand punching Jim Kelly, and as a coach for Stanford he accepted an interview with the Dolphins while they still had a head coach under contract.

Schwartz’s example was not allowing some fool treat him like a chump on his home field.

I’ll go with Schwartz’s example every time.
