As for Coach Harbaugh…. Its all semantics and in the phrasing because he could say that pursuing PM would’ve meant extending a contract offer which as far as we all know never happened. Word play? For sure. I said then what I say now. The gamble wasn’t worth it.

WRONG. alex had a contract in hand weeks before the peyton manning saga started. he chose not to sign it due to some language issues in the contract.

to make matters worse, peyton manning and alex smith are represented by the same agent. it’s not a stretch to assume that either peyton manning or tom condon initiated the meeting due to the impasse with smith.

real niner fans in the bay area and around the world know that harbaugh made it perfectly clear that he wanted alex smith back.

alex going to miami had more to do with posturing as a free agent more than anything else.

i’m not sure where all the hatred comes from towards harbaugh but you can’t ignore the truth that by alex not signing the deal he had in hand, he forced the team to look at all options.

if peyton was looking for the deal he got in denver (clearly he wanted the same money he had before), there was no way that the niners were going to accommodate him. that would mean cutting 7 players some of whom were pro bowl or all pro players. not gonna happen…
