the fact that a guy that did not even play last year made the list confirms the players opinions cannot be trusted. they may be able to play but that doesn’t mean they have any idea what they are talking about.

How can anyone rank a guy as the 50th best NFL player in 2011 when he didn’t play a single snap?! These are the same idiots who sign $50 mil contracts, and then complain about being disrespected and underpaid a week later.

I’m not a colts fan. If Polian put players around him, he would have been the best qb ever.

Seriously? PM had more first rounders around him on offense during his career in Indy than any other QB in the entire NFL. He had the #2 ranked scoring defense in the league in 05 backing him and his team went one and done primarily due to the offense under performing.

The reason they won nothing without him last year is more due to the failure of the GM and coaching staff to obtain a decent backup in a timely manner (ie when he had the third procedure) and to coach up the rest of the guys there. That’s why Irsay fired the coaching staff AND the GM. If it was JUST due to PM, don’t you think Irsay would have kept those guys if it wasn’t any of their fault?

For the record, I don’t think TB should have been on the list after 08 either (I didn’t realize it went back that far even). Though his stats looked good, he wasn’t quite right that whole year in 09. He was still learning to trust his knee and was skittish at times and threw some seriously un TB- like passes.
What they should do is say if a guy played not even one full game the season prior, he’s disqualified.

They’ve mentioned on the Reactions Show a couple times that they asked players to list 20 players they would want if they were starting a team next year. Mystery solved.

It also explains perfectly why Manning is at 50. With that criteria in mind, taking Peyton is an extremely debatable proposition.

I’ll tell you what’s silly. Taking the time to comment in a thread to inform everybody it’s silly. Now go play with your wittle baum.

NFLN should’ve had a Peyton Manning comedy sketch instead of highlights because he DIDN’T PLAY last year.

All they talk about is how ‘funny’ he is anyways. If not a sketch, they should’ve had him do jokes about how he got on the top 100 list without touching Jeff Saturday’s balls season.

It’s a new era now though. Peyton is hoping that he & JD Walton will be much more centered than he was with Saturday.

Johnny U actually WON the big games.. and he didnt take a quarter of the team’s salary cap to do so.

So what do you get when you ask a group of players for a list of their top players, and find that half ranked Peyton at #1 and the other half left him off the list completely – because half felt one way and half felt the other way? No surprise that the average rank across all votes put Peyton at #50 on a list of 100 – exactly halfway down.

The #50 rank has nothing to do with Peyton and everything to do with the fact that the players are split right down the middle on the question, just like the fans.

I’d have to say that the Tilt-A-Whirl would be a no-no for Peyton.

Brady was ranked #2 in 2009 after missing practically all of 2008. Your logic FAILS.

The reality is probably that very few players actually ranked P.Manning in the #50 area.

Florio….how about an article to break down how the rankings are actually compiled. Take some of the mystery out of it and make it more understandable and open for everyone.

He isn’t even the best QB to wear a Colts uniform! Johnny Unitas holds that honor as well as the honor of being the GOAT.

I can’t wait to see Seyton Manning get laid out and see if he gets back up. I mean after all, Manning insist on coming back and it was only a few neck surgery’s. Not like it was a concussion or three.

I was wondering what Vontae Leach did to drop off the list once they got to #50, only to be absolutely shocked to see him at #45.

That should give the Ravens 6 of the top 45 players. Leach at #45 and Rice, Ngata, Lewis, Suggs and Reed all locks to be on this list.

Now we just need these ‘lists’ to lead to Super Bowl appearances for the Ravens…

I believe the 2nd choice makes more sense, though I don’t think the players themselves know exactly what the ranking criteria is.

If you’re ranking Peyton from LAST season than he doesn’t make the list, but if you rank Peyton in this upcoming season than I think he should be lower…he’s one of the greats. It should be made very clear to everyone involved exactly what the ranking criteria is…
