The way I look at it is that, NFL players don't have the mindset of "Oh I have enough money it's fine." that's just the way it is. Now, the thing is is that he signs the tender this year, and could just sign the big one next year. But, what if he gets injured this year? Then hes not going to get that next tender. He wants that guaranteed money in a contract. I don't think he'll hold out this year, but if the Saints offer him a contract after this year, he's going to say "Screw you. You didn't want to give me a contract I'm going somewhere else." I bet he could sign with another team if the Saints don't offer him as much as another team. If Drew is like that, it could happen. If the Saints knew what was best for them though they'd offer him a contract. He deserves Brady and Manning money, not that he needs it but what can you do? He is the Saints after all. Thats just my opinion though.

No, you can still make fun of Packer fans who bought stock. I mean come on, the Packer fans seriously believe they own the team by going out of their way to cough up $250. Thats hilarious and fans across many different sports laugh at that.
—————

As part of the new Vikings Stadium deal, the City of Minneapolis will have to pay at least $678 million over the 30 year lease deal, to cover construction and operation costs, among other things.

The City of Minneapolis has a population of about 382,000.

If you do the math, that comes out to each resident of Minneapolis paying an average of about $1,775 for the new stadium, regardless of whether or not they’re even Vikings fans, let alone whether or not they’d want to contribute to the stadium. (Obviously, I know this number is inflated as it doesn’t take into account taxes from businesses. I’m just trying to keep it simplistic. Either way, it’s definitely more than the $250 those Packers fans paid for stock).

That also doesn’t take into account the over $300 million the State of Minnesota is throwing into the stadium as well. And this is the same for nearly every new stadium, as self-financing is quite rare.

So……you still want to make fun of Packers fans voluntarily giving $250 to their team…..while fans of other teams are having more than $250 taken out of their taxes against their will?
-------
Yes, I do. Because at the end of the day, NOTHING came out of my pocket and the stadium got built. Even if I did live in Minneapolis, I would not go around saying that I am part owner of an NFL franchise. Packer fans are absolutely blinded by the lore of a teams history to the point where they will throw away their money in order to say "you know that history...yea, I belong to it".

Thank you bskarter4,

There is no way that Brees would accept it. I think the lawyer would have went further with Brees had he said it would go to the Brees Dream Foundation instead of offering it to him. When I read it, I took from it that the lawyer fan was doing it to put into Benson & Loomis's faces. Not Drew Brees. I sure hope a deal gets done soon myself. All you Saints haters, get a life and you won't be clicking on every blog that mentions the Saints. See ya this fall when it matters! WHO DAT!

paulrg77: I’m the last one to criticize people for not donating their hard earned money to charity if they don’t have the means to do so. But anyone who can afford to contribute to a star football player who will make more money can he could ever spend rather than, say, a children’s hospital or cancer research, needs to get their head checked. I put "stock" in quotes as it's really a voluntary donation to help the team do things like renovate their stadium without sticking it to the taxpayers. You will be hard-pressed to find one "stock-holder" who doesn't refer to his or herself as an owner without their tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Donating to the Drew Brees cause is foolish because: A. fans pay for his salary anyway, B. he's not going anywhere, and C. neither are the Saints this year - no matter how delusional some of their fans might be.

No, you can still make fun of Packer fans who bought stock. I mean come on, the Packer fans seriously believe they own the team by going out of their way to cough up $250. Thats hilarious and fans across many different sports laugh at that.
---------------

As part of the new Vikings Stadium deal, the City of Minneapolis will have to pay at least $678 million over the 30 year lease deal, to cover construction and operation costs, among other things.

The City of Minneapolis has a population of about 382,000.

If you do the math, that comes out to each resident of Minneapolis paying an average of about $1,775 for the new stadium, regardless of whether or not they're even Vikings fans, let alone whether or not they'd want to contribute to the stadium. (Obviously, I know this number is inflated as it doesn't take into account taxes from businesses. I'm just trying to keep it simplistic. Either way, it's definitely more than the $250 those Packers fans paid for stock).

That also doesn't take into account the over $300 million the State of Minnesota is throwing into the stadium as well. And this is the same for nearly every new stadium, as self-financing is quite rare.

So......you still want to make fun of Packers fans voluntarily giving $250 to their team.....while fans of other teams are having more than $250 taken out of their taxes against their will?

Here's a better idea, for everybody who isnt a Saints fan: Donate $0.01 through PayPal with your Visa card. The simple interchange charges associated with accepting credit cards will cost the person starting the site more than they actually generate and will put this thing out of business, or force this idiot to shut down in no time. Cmon people, get out your Visas, even better if it is a debit card, as the per transaction fee is $.22, and donate 0.01. This guy will never get the scratch together.

Yeah, I think its kinda cheesy (no offense packer fans) but maybe it will shame both sides into getting the deal done. Brees should be paid but he can't wreck the team doing it and the Saints do have cap issues. Anyway, the money will ultimately go to the Brees foundation charity as there is no way he will be able to take accept it.

@ citizenstrange,
I agree. Taxpayers funding a stadium especially with no vote in the matter is basically theft.

If some people want to be dopey enough to make that gesture for Brees with their own money they actually earned from working, I can (and do) laugh but it's their dime.
