Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne is recovering from wrist surgery and unable to participate fully in Organized Team Activities, but Dallas defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has seen enough to know Claiborne is something special.

Ryan said that while it’s important for a rookie to earn the playing time he gets, it’s difficult to envision the player the Cowboys used both their first- and second-round picks on not getting a whole lot of playing time.

“In my opinion, everybody earns however many reps they get or their starting spot,” Ryan said. “Obviously, this guy’s a unique talent. We didn’t move up in the draft to get a guy that’s not going to play. We’ve got an outstanding guy here.”

Ryan has been prone to hyperbole about his players in the past, but in the case of Claiborne, it’s clear that everyone in the organization believes that he’s a unique talent. Now the Cowboys just need to wait until training camp, when Claiborne will be healthy enough to fully showcase that unique talent.
