As a UC fan, I always liked Schiano. Good overall coach with nice gameday instincts. Hope he does well.

Schiano will do well in Tampa. I want to bring up something that has been on my mind about the pay rates of players vs coaches in the NFL. Its true, most players on an NFL team make more money than the guy who is responsible for them, who gives them orders, who stays 50 extra hours a week to make sure all is well, the Head Coach. Why is that? Why is the guy in charge not making better money? In any other place of employment, as you go up the ladder, you usually make more, much more, but not in the NFL.
Rodger Goodell needs to put in some sort of rule that the Head Coach should make the average pay of his 53 man roster. Why not, the Head Coach is responsible for what happens on and off the field with his players. With more responsibility should come more money, IMO. Anyone else agree?

I don't think that is a viable idea. People get paid what other people think they are worth. If people value coaches more than players, they get paid more than players. If coaches get paid the 53 man avarage, you will see alot of coaches want to overpay players to max out the cap, and alot more cheap owners paying little for starters to keep another salary down. Some coaches deserve more than others, let them earn it.

Not a big fan of his coaching assistants hire's.

Also, remember this was the Buc's 2nd choice for HC.

He definitely did some great things at Rutgers and is detail oriented indeed (a huge trait foa all coaches if they hope to succeed) I just question his direction with his staff if he really is detailed oriented.

Sounds like when Mangini came in and took over the Browns. He swept in, changing everything from wall color to locker assignments. We liked some of the tactics he implemented. Fans bought in. Our team lacked focus, we thought he'd whip them into shape with his no nonsense attitude. But that's all Mangini had, heavy handed tactics. No balance, the players saw through it, and most of us fans began to as well.

If Shiano doesn't find a way to measure these somewhat heavy handed things. They seem small, but they build, and they can pile up quickly, leading to bigger issues. He'll find his way out of there in a couple years.

I really don't know why all the talk about "control freak" has got to do with the temperature of meeting rooms. I have been going to sales and training meetings off and on for the past forty years and most every speaker has the room as cold as possible. This is not so much for our comfort but to keep anybody from dozing off. I have learned to just bring a jacket.

He must have been watching the thermometer more than the scoreboard. I am amazed by the "great hire" hype surrounding this guy. 68-67 in 11 years at Rutgers. 20 games under .500 in the Big East. 4 winning seasons in conference, twice tying for second. A couple of crappy, third tier bowl wins. Never beat WVU. Yeah it's Rutgers, but they was playing Buffalo and New Hampshire not LSU and Bama. This guy cost Rutgers any possibility of ever getting into the Big 10 or ACC. Rutgers is lucky to be rid of him.

It's quite obvious that there are some fans out there that can't stand the fact that Tampa Bay no longer has a pushover coach with lax requirements for the players. I applaud Schiano on his methods thus far, as I'm sure most Tampa fans do as well. It's nice to see attention to detail, as it usually transfers to wins in the long haul. I think Schiano has gained respect without "treating the players like children." What a ridiculous comparison, paulitik74. Seriously, go read a book.

Hey @schmitty2, they are Not talking about making a warm meeting room you Dunce? They are practicing in high temperatures now, and will continue to do so. The meaning of the article is that he will make sure that the the room is Cool and Chilled comfortably so the players are awake and attentive. Zing…get it. He knows to avoid the atmospere of hot uncomfortable, sweaty stinky players having trouble paying attention for an important meeting.

When they come in from practices in July and August they will have brisk meeting rooms at 65 degrees to relax and still concentrate in!

You call me a Dunce but end it with a question mark--so who's the real dunce here? I was making a joke as if to say "Too bad he can't make it cold outside too" I realize your a Buc's homer and need EVERY bit of good news you can get but chill out dude

Its true, most players on an NFL team make more money than ... , the Head Coach.

***********

no, it's not true. Yeah, Vincent Jackson makes more money than Schiano, Tom Brady makes more than Belichek, Peyton Manning makes more than Fox, etc, every team has a few, but which team has more than half the players making more money than the HC? can you name one, or five, or "most",

... or, will you just keep making up statistics?

Hey @schmitty2, they are Not talking about making a warm meeting room you Dunce? They are practicing in high temperatures now, and will continue to do so. The meaning of the article is that he will make sure that the the room is Cool and Chilled comfortably so the players are awake and attentive. Zing...get it. He knows to avoid the atmospere of hot uncomfortable, sweaty stinky players having trouble paying attention for an important meeting.

When they come in from practices in July and August they will have brisk meeting rooms at 65 degrees to relax and still concentrate in!
