Drew Brees lets Joe Vitt know he can dance

Saints interim head coach Joe Vitt had a pretty good soundbite on Thursday when asked why he was confident that Drew Brees would be reporting to the Saints before missing anything too significant.

“What else is he going to do, he can’t sing or dance.”

Vitt’s words made their way to the quarterback and he crafted a response to Vitt on Twitter that makes you think Brees might have a future on American Idol or Dancing With the Stars.

“On the contrary Joe Vitt, you have obviously never seen me karaoke! As for dancing, @LanceMoore ain’t got nothing on me”

The Saints obviously don’t care much about how well Brees can sing or dance, they just want him to be their quarterback. While Brees’ response doesn’t tell us anything about when he might be back in that role, the joking nature of the back-and-forth is a sign that there isn’t much animosity between the two sides. As long as that remains the case, Vitt’s confidence about Brees showing up for work seems to be accurate.

When exactly Brees might show up remains unknown. Given all the reasons both sides have to reach an agreement about a shared future, though, it remains difficult to believe in any other outcome.

There shouldn’t be any ill will between Brees and Vitt. They both understand that this is a business.

I don’t know, Lance Moore got some moves! LOL! Enough chit chat though, lets get that contract done!

Its good to see some slightly light-hearted news about the Saints but Brees contract issues and the bounties still stain this franchise and will for a while.

Let these guys hold out and lets see if they will sit through an NFL season making $0.00 while the NFL continues on just fine without them…

I agree with the quote from one of the Steelers players earlier this week… They need the NFL more than the NFL needs them

  7. jacksaysfu says: Jun 1, 2012 10:34 AM

Im an Eagles fan , but come on N.O. pay this man & keep him happy . This guy is the best QB & probably player the Saints ever had . There’s no reason to mess up a good relationship , pay the man !

Only the Saints could screw this up. They saved ~$7 million from all the people who got suspended. Put that money towards Brees’s contract and you would have a deal signed before lunch today.

  15. ksm31311 says: Jun 1, 2012 10:49 AM

    Nice Capp there Andy…

This is what the Saints need – more drama…

  16. whodat0951 says: Jun 1, 2012 10:57 AM

Brees is not lying. I saw a clip on NFL Films about 5 to 7 years ago that showed Brees dancing while he was with the Chargers. He was in the weight room with Lorenzo Neal and I have to say he has some impressive moves. On a serious note, pay the man.

  17. dexterismyhero says: Jun 1, 2012 10:58 AM

I didn’t know they had the Purdue fight song on karaoke.

And for once Drew doesn’t need more info…

  20. darthsaint says: Jun 1, 2012 11:14 AM

Wait, everyone was sure Drew hated the Saints. They would never be able to work out a deal now. He was going to not play this season. The Saints would be the Aints and win two games. Then they would have to reach for Matt Barkley in the draft.

Wait…none of that is happening? The sky isn’t falling? The Saints will still make him the highest paid player in the NFL? And the Saints will still find a way to win this season?

This is NOT the right way to start a weekend for PFT Haters.

Don’t think for a second that the Saints success is all about Brees. Your coach has more to do with it than Brees. Just look at the Pats when they lost Brady they still put up 11 wins. Its the system and I hope Brees holds out so it will be proven.

  23. robf2010 says: Jun 1, 2012 11:33 AM

“Its good to see some slightly light-hearted news about the Saints but Brees contract issues and the bounties still stain this franchise and will for a while.”

When the second round of next year’s draft skips the Saints, BountyGate will be cited. You will hear almost nothing about it from then on. This is not the greatest scandal ever. This is much ado about nothing and that’s how it will be remembered, if it’s remembered at all.

  24. nflfan555 says: Jun 1, 2012 11:35 AM

If they spent half the time trying to get Brees signed that they spend whining about that barely avg LB Vilma – it would be done by now….

  25. souldogdave says: Jun 1, 2012 11:46 AM

Disrespectful dismissive comment by Vitt, Brees takes the high road. That should have been your lead-in.

OK, amaf21…. I guess you’re the biggest Drew Brees hater out there… or maybe you’re just the most jealous fan of the Saints and their marquee, Superbowl QB!!! LOSER!!!

  28. xxwhodatxx says: Jun 1, 2012 11:51 AM

There is no rush on the deal contrary to all the articles saying otherwise. It WILL get done in time.

  29. goodolebaghead says: Jun 1, 2012 11:52 AM

For those of you that don’t know how the NFL works when paying players: This isn’t about the Saints not wanting to pay them. Their hands are somewhat tied. You see, there’s this thing called a Salary Cap. The Saints have a lot of talent surround the Brees, talent that makes him look really good, talent that also needs to get paid. Benson CAN’T just pay the man, that would be breaking NFL rules. So both sides are shuffling pieces around trying to hammer out the best deal for both sides.

So for those of you yelling for the Saints to come off the money, know you sound ignorant. Look what happened to the Cboys and Skins when they just paid instead of staying under the cap.

It’s funny how soon the stupid Saints organization forgets what life was like before they got a good QB…..Give them somebody like Aaron Brooks for a few seasons and they’ll be right back in the toilet.

How does the San Antonio Saints sound? The Los Angeles Saints has a nice ring to it.

It wasn’t disrespectful, if you listened to the comment. Vitt is a very no nonsense sounding guy but he does have a sense of humor. He’s just really blunt in the way he talks. I’ve liked him all the way back to his epic pressers when he was the Rams interim HC.

    @thcnote

I’m a Pats fan and couldn’t agree more. As great as TB is, I’d take losing him any day over losing BB.

    ———————————————-

At this point it is kinda moot. They already lost their coach for the year, the question now is whether they add their all-star QB to that pile.

If BB was already gone for the year I bet Pats fans would be rather nervous about TB too.

@goodolebaghead…. Thank you for your condescending tutorial on the salary cap. Can you also tell us how a bill becomes a law?….. Ahhhh memories. I think people are saying “just pay the man” because the Saints shady GM came out with that “good not great” blast on Brees and then (NFL QB salary-wise) low balled him. Salary cap numbers can be finagled (legal term?) In such a way that they can have their cake and eat it too….oh I’d love to be a fly on the wall in that office for those meetings…well maybe not a fly… I guess any old bug would do…. I hear Loomis knows a guy… ;-) chillax bro. Its Friday!

  37. drew902brees says: Jun 1, 2012 1:12 PM

Drew Brees is a class act. The best in the business. He “towers” over the competition. PAY THE MAN

  38. jacksaysfu says: Jun 1, 2012 1:14 PM

@goodolebaghead : Well if that’s the case then Saints fans should get on their front office for poor salary cap management . I mean common sense had to tell them that this day could be coming

  39. granadafan says: Jun 1, 2012 1:22 PM

That’s true, and BB’s the Pats’ real GM too so it’s a double whammy because your GM is still in play until the first game. But your team at least has two guys with some HC experience. Ours has just J Mc D. But his response was more about which was more important. I was just agreeing with him that great HC>one great player.
