gingerkid2000 Ok I understand what your saying here but what if they was not doing anything wrong then how could they stop when they was warned for something they was not doing in the first place. The whole NFL is mad because all these years the Saints was at the bottom now they got it together and are a threat to such teams as the crybabies in Ervine, Tx. All these years the calls have been against the Saints now it's the Saints time to be on top, and ya'll just can not stand it. I still say let the law prevail if they did it then prove it in a court of law. It the have evidence to back up what they say then show it to the court, not the whole world but the court. It has been said to many times don't go to a gun fight with a knife, and if they are not bringing out anything to prove what they say then they are doing just that.

If my understanding of the law is correct they must prove beyond that shadow of a doubt that he is guilty he does not have to prove he is innocent. If the commish has evidence that he has done this then by LAW he must bring it out and prove it.
And to think, if the Saints had stopped when the NFL told them to stop, they wouldn't be dealing with ANY of this. We all know other teams did this too, but none of them were punished. That's because when they were given a warning they stopped!!! If you have the capability to prevent a bad situation then man up, show a sack & a spine and a little restraint! Don't continue to defy the warning then act like an irresponsible wimp and blame the other guy. Saints could have prevented all of this. They all chose not too. None of them were strong enough to step up and say we should probably discontinue this before we jeopardize the reputation of the organization. They all let their selfishness and greed get the better of them. Given what Vilma was making, if he was stupid enough to squander his money so much that his punishment would financially "ruin" his life then he deserves to go broke. Sorry but these guys need to learn to take responsibility and grow up instead of listening to an attorney that's pleading his weak case in order to make a quick buck. The media & public are not entitled to see any of the evidence. Problem is we have a society that thinks self-entitlement is a way of life. You're not entitled! You never have been and you never will be. You just all think you are because you are egocentric and dumb. Just like Vilma.

Bottom line: All of the public outrage was based on Goodell's public accusation that the Saints were paying and receiving money in a bounty system to intentionally injure other players. He specifically accused Vilma as the ring leader and putting up 10 grand. Turns out that this is not true at all. Perhaps there was a pool verbally joked about for hard LEGAL hits. Goodell knew this was common in all teams, and was looking to pick one to penalize harshly as a message to all. That's why he intentionally exaggerated and made it sound worse, by saying pay to injure. Goodell's evil plan didn't count on an innocent man taking him to court to clear his name. There's no way Goodell survives as the leader of the NFL when a Louisiana judge and jury finds him guilty as charged.

Talk about misdirection. Goodell claimed that Vilma was dirty and trying to injure players, everyone on the Saints has denied it. What they have admitted to is a pay for performance system.

————————–

That is still illegal. Any money that is given for performance outside of their contract is illegal pay and is circumventing the cap system.

---------------------

Just curious:

A) Does the amount of money that exchanged hands push the Saints above the salary cap for 2009?

B) If the money received did not come directly from the Saints' organization, how is this covered by salary cap rules?

C) If the pool is funded by player monies (fines and such for mental errors), and players are getting paid out from this pool, is this not a zero-sum game?

D) Finally, despite the high value of the pools, do we know if there was anything left at the end of the season?

What all the fans don’t realize is YOu are not entitled to see the evidence. This isn’t show and tell. You already know its true anyway. Williams ADMITTED IT!!!!!! what part of that don’t you understand? He would never have admitted it after his multiple denials unless Goodell had the goods on him. Vilma IS guilty! Otherwise, why would only 4 players get suspended? Why him, and not all the others? Because there’s proof he did it. Its an NFL interal matter. WE aren’t entitled to see it. I hope Vilma gets banned for life after this. he’s using emotional manipulation to create hatred against Goodell when he’s the culprit. I hope Goodell sues him for defamation of character also. You Saints fans aren’t doing yourselves any favors either. I used to root for the Saints, as I did in the Superbowl, but now, I hope you never win another game. You’re destroying your own teams reputation. a sign of the times I guess. No one takes responsibility for their actions anymore.

______________

Goodell created this himself. He needs to find something called "consistency." You know, that thing NFL players have to have if they want to keep their job?

I think Goodell should have punished the Saints for having the bounty program (even though everybody else does it, we did get warned and we did get caught). We are guilty of that. But where he messed up was accusing us of intentionally trying to injure others. That is where his "evidence" becomes laughable. So lets take a look at what we actually did, compared to what we are actually being punished for:

Here is what we know are facts and what we are guilty of:

1. We had a pay for performance program that paid for big plays. 2. Gregg Williams has a foul mouth.

Here is what we are being punished for: 1. We had a pay for performance program that paid for big plays. 2. Gregg Williams has a foul mouth 3. An anonymous source said we placed 10,000 to injure Kurt Warner (heresay and no proof has been provided) 4. An Anonymous source said we placed 10,000 to injure Brett Favre (heresay and no proof has been provided) 5. A prisoner placed a bounty on Cam Newton. (A joke left in the post script) 6. A prisoner placed a bounty on Aaron Rodgers. (A joke left in the post script) 7. We lied to Goodell and attempted to cover it up. (I dont even think we really lied to him. I think what happened is Goodell really believed those emails from Ornstein were a legit bounty being placed on opponents. Goodell questioned Payton about those emails, and Payton told the truth, they were a joke or he didnt even see them. Goodell didnt believe Payton and thats why he thinks we lied to him. Goodell was wrong.)

I might be missing a few things still, but for the most part i made my point.

So now what we are dealing with is an arrogant Commissioner who is too proud to admit he was wrong. It is too late for him to turn back now and admit he was wrong. We are guilty of some things, but not most of it. We are however being punished for ALL of it. If Goodell ever wanted to gain respect back from Saints fans, the only thing he could do to make us feel like it was a fair punishment is to cut every single punishment he made in half. Even then it would still be too harsh, but at least it shows that he is willing to admit to his mistake and would gain some respect back from us.

I would be happy if he reduced the punishments to this:

Payton 8 games Loomis 4 games Vitt 3 games Vilma 4 games Smith 2 games Fujita 2 games Hargrove 4 games Give us back our 2nd rounder next year

I know this wont happen, and i also still believe that even those penalties would still be too harsh. But it is the only way Goodell could gain any respect back from Saints fans while at the same time still make his statement that bounty programs are unacceptable. _

I think Goodell should have punished the Saints for having the bounty program (even though everybody else does it, we did get warned and we did get caught). We are guilty of that. But where he messed up was accusing us of intentionally trying to injure others. That is where his “evidence” becomes laughable.

What all the fans don’t realize is YOu are not entitled to see the evidence. This isn’t show and tell. You already know its true anyway. Williams ADMITTED IT!!!!!! what part of that don’t you understand?
---------------------
Read Greg Williams statement, genius - for the 5,000th time no one has admitted to a pay for injury program, which is the reason the players and coaches have been suspended. What part of that don't YOU understand.

As for who is entitled to see the evidence, no one is saying that fans are entitled. But the players and their lawyers and union sure as hell are, before players are denied millions in salary on a commissioner's whim. Last time I look this was not Cuba.

Please get a clue, "catquick."

Seriously people, I hate lawyers.

Besides Vilma making this ridiculous defamation lawsuit which won't holdup.

Everyone on here thinks that Goodell has to abide by due process. Guess what folks, it's a private fricken business. There only due process is Goodell saying -- no more of this type of behavior, I have enough innuendo to punish the whole lot of you.

The legal thing Goodell really has to contend with is all the ex-players and their concussion lawsuits. If he were to do nothing, this could get a whole lot worse.

Someone said that Goodell will not weather this storm, well as much as I can't stand to think it -- the NFL is likely to start going through some bad storms it might not be able to withstand.

The Saints restructured almost every big money contract this season. They're up against the salary cap and are trying to sign Drew Brees. Will Smith and Jabari Greer also restructured. It worked out nicely for Vilma but it also benefited the Saints. There's nothing here.

"The guilty always hate the judge that gives the sentence." - Patriot42

OK this makes 100% sense, but what percentage of the time do the innocent like the judge that wrongfully convicts them?

I guess all the people on their knees for Vilma forget this:

<i>Payton and Loomis issued a joint statement on March 6 taking full responsibility for the problems in New Orleans.

“We acknowledge that the violations disclosed by the NFL during their investigation of our club happened under our watch,” they said in a statement. “These are serious violations and we understand the negative impact it has had on our game. Both of us have made it clear within our organization that this will never happen again, and make that same promise to the NFL and most importantly to all of our fans.”</i>

Let's not pretend it didn't happen. Let's not pretend Vilma is innocent. <b>This is a big stink over a closed issue where SOME PEOPLE won't man up and accept their punishment.</b>
