Use of steroids can result in avascular necrosis....this is common in the hip and shoulder region but can effect other large joints such as the knee...this can be caused by long term steroid use ...excessive alcohol use.....this is why doctors are or should be careful when prescribing steroid dose packs for simple ailments such as rashes, severe allergies,
exposure to poison ivy.....there are indications that steroid use at an early age.....like high school and college years could effect an athletes joints ....there are many who believe that Brian Bosworth suffered shoulder problems from steroids . Often steroid use is helpful to reduce the effects of an injury to the shoulder.....but in the long term actually harm the joint by reduced blood flow. Perhaps Mr. Cushings long term and early use could be hurting him or he just has a bad knee.

Actually, YOU may want to educate yourself a little more. There are steroids that treat joints and inflammation but they’re NOT the same ones that make you bigger, stronger and faster.

Of course I know this. The original post I replied to implied that all steroids damage joints and ligaments, and that is obviously not true. And the amount of steroids you have to take to cross over into "my muscles are going to tear off my bone because they're so huge and strong compared to my ligaments" is astronomical. It happens only to the most obsessive pro BBers and young kids who juice to the max not knowing any better. I just don't think Cushing could possibly be taking enough to do this. And if he's been off since he was suspended, his joints would be completely healed from any steroid use by now. If his joints and ligaments are sore, it has nothing to do w juice.

Ligament and joint issues are LONG-TERM side effects of having used steroids. Just cause he’s your boy and you want to say he’s not doing roids anymore, doesn’t mean it makes all the side effects from when he did do them go away.
_________________________________

You have no idea what you are talking about. Ligament and joint issues are treated with steroids (they reduce the inflammation). Ligament and joint pain comes from lots of things, none of which are steroids (sports, running, weight lifting). Sometimes, if someone takes too much juice too fast, and the muscles become too strong the joints and ligaments, that can also cause issues. But Cush is no pro body builder.

Easy to hate, hard to actually get educated.

Actually, YOU may want to educate yourself a little more. There are steroids that treat joints and inflammation but they're NOT the same ones that make you bigger, stronger and faster. The problem (as you somewhat eluded to) is that the muscles grow and strengthen faster than the joints. Joints and ligaments simply can't keep up with how fast the muscles are strengthening and it often results in torn ligaments and/or joint issues. Don't be so insulting when you yourself are not completely educated on the subject.

Insert cliche “He’s on roids!!!” comment.

When did he actually FAIL a PED test? Back towards the end of his rookie year in 2009 (with the results not released till the offseason) and what year is it now?

Whoever makes the cliche roids comment watches more Hallmark channel than they do ESPN/NFL Network/CBS on Sundays.

---------------------------------------------------

Add another season, the test he failed was preseason of his rookie year not at the end of it. He has passed every test since!
