Getty ImagesThe Kansas City Chiefs hosted free agent safety Abram Elam at club headquarters in late May.
On Monday, they announced Elam has been signed to a contract.
Elam, 30, has started 47 games over the past three seasons. While he’s shown little playmaking ability, Elam adds experienced depth with starting safeties Eric Berry and Kendrick Lewis sitting out OTAs due to injury.
Elam will compete with Travis Daniels, Kyle McCarthy, Donald Washington, and rookies De’Quan Menzie and Terrance Parks for a roster spot in training camp.

That doesn’t sound encouraging…ouch
Another former Brown for the former Brown coaching staff.
Looks like they’re getting the band back together. KC should be excited.
Why do teams keep giving guys like this chances? Him and Alan Ball bother sucked last year and they keep getting jobs? The KC Browns will be just as good as there Cleveland counterparts.
Please, let’s all use the signing of a guy who probably won’t see the field very much as a launching pad to talk about how the Chiefs don’t care about winning.
Dude is just somebody to beat up on ’till Lewis and Berry are day-one ready. This a good move by Pioli. He is just a body to fill a space. Don’t get too nega on this signing. Elam won’t see the field.
Hes a solid player but not special. Should be ok in KC.
Can’t be any worse than Sabby Piscatelli….
