Anything but money away from the dome? I am so sick of hearing this. Over the last three seasons, including the playoffs, the Saints are 41-13. Over the last 6 seasons, Brees has been better statistically than any quarterback in history, and its not even close. Brees either owns or has threatened every major passing record. You don’t do all of this by just being good at home, so check your facts before you start repeating that nonsense. Brees deserves to be the highest paid player in the league because he is the best player in the league.

Brees likely wants to be the top paid QB and after seeing what P. Manning got coming off a year he didn’t play a single snap (among other reasons) I can’t blame him for feeling that way, though I don’t agree with him. The other part of the equation is that Condon is a very tough agent to deal with (see what he got for P.Manning for example). Add them up & that =majority of this stalemate IMO.

LOL – you can tell the ignorance of some people. I am born and raised in New Orleans and my wife in Philly. We don’t live in either place not but we went to New Orleans shortly after Katrina to check on some family and then a few months later to Philly to check on her family. The funny thing is that my kids were able to see the devastation by Katrina and then a few months later driving through Philly my then 6 year old asked in a very curious and innocent tone – Daddy did a Hurricane hit here also. LOL!!! So yep New Orleans is dirty in many areas, some of it exaggerated by a natural disaster but hey bathroombenlovemachine what’s the excuse in Philly? Brees won’t sign the franchise tag because (according to him) of what happened when he was injured while on the tag in San Diego. What that means is that Brees doesn’t want a one year deal because if he gets hurt he’ll not be paid for FOOTBALL HE DOESN’T PLAY.

With that mindset, it’s probably not so much about whether it’s 19 million or 21, it’s about how much of that money is guaranteed. Brees wants to know that if he’s knocked out of football for good this year that the Saints will still have to pay him year after year for football he doesn’t play. That’s where the big money is.

I think everyone, including Loomis, realizes Brees is the face of the franchise and is the main reason for the Saints recent success. Loomis also realizes that without a solid supporting cast, Brees will continue to put up Tecmo Bowl numbers but on a 7-9 or 8-8 team as he did in 2007 and 2008 when the Saints defense was among the worst in the league.

The deal will get done, but Loomis isn’t going to offer a contract that will cripple the team for the next 6 years.

Everyone is worried about Drew Brees signing his contract right now. I’m here to tell you, it won’t happen at this point in time. And to be honest with you, I think the deal is done already. Let’s just think about this for a second. Who right now in the Saints organization is the only person that can have any conversations with Sean Payton? Drew Brees! He is not under contract, so he and Payton can get together about plans for the upcoming season. Why would he sign his contract if he is the only person that can relate things that the caoch would want to get done to the other coaches and players? The Saints know what they are doing. It’s just no one else is looking at it from this prosective. Brees and Payton are probably sitting down right now over coffee talking about things they would like to establish in training camp! So until that point in time, Brees will stay unsigned. Besides, it’s good for Chase Daniels to get those reps in. Brees has mastered the offense. He can establish a repore with the new comers in training camp.

I think what has gotten lost in memory is that this is still the same owner that wanted to sneak out of NO in the middle of the night after Katrina. Benson was a hated man a few years ago and for good reason. So I wouldn’t so quickly jump to support the team and demonize the player. The devil is always in the details when it comes to player contracts as Florio has proven time and time again. This may be a situation where Brees wants a long term commitment and the Saints are willing to do year to year leases disguised as a long term deal.

It’s getting pretty old how every time a player who is arguably top 5 or 10 at his position is due for a contract, that player feels as though their next contract must set the new standard for players at the top of their position.

Brees should be happy that the Saints are willing to pay him what Brady makes.

Not everybody gets to be the best or highest paid at what they do. That’s just life.

Since this is an NFL contract I believe there’s more to it than merely a difference of yearly salary average. How much gaurantees does Breed want and how much is the team offering? Is the contract backloaded or frontloaded? How will the bonuses be structured? How many years are both parties demanding the contract cover? As a side note it still amazes me that the Saints let this contract situation with their all pro QB who finished 2nd in MVP voting, was integral in bringing the team its first Super bowl, and statistically had one of the best season ever for a QB deterioate to
