J.J. Watt: Texans “don’t really have a weakness”

As a rookie defensive end in Houston last season, J.J. Watt started all 16 regular-season games and then had a spectacular interception return for a touchdown as the Texans won their first playoff game in franchise history. And Watt thinks this year is going to be even better.

Watt said on ESPN’s NFL 32 that at Houston’s Organized Team Activities, he sees nothing but good players competing with good players, on a team that has nothing but good players.

“It’s a competition every day,” Watt said. “I think that’s the sign of a good team, when you have a good offense and a good defense and it’s just a battle. That means that you don’t really have a weakness. You can see just little battles going on every day, whether it’s a receiver against a DB or the o-line against the d-line. Our team is working hard and we know what’s at stake this year. We know what kind of team we have.”

Watt said last month that the Texans are aiming for the Super Bowl, and he’s not backing off on that.

“Last year wasn’t a fluke,” Watt said. “We didn’t make the playoffs on a fluke. We got a taste of the playoffs last year and now we want that whole pie. Our goal is the Super Bowl and nothing less. I think that’s big down here in Houston. The fans are excited about it. We’re excited about it. And all we can do is go to work every day and get better.”

Watt is obviously extremely confident heading into his second NFL season. After winning the AFC South despite an injury-plagued season and winning a playoff game with their third-string quarterback, there’s no reason the Texans shouldn’t be confident.
