Romo installed as favorite at Tahoe golf tournament

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo drew praise for suspending his quest to qualify for the U.S. Open, given that it can get in the way of, you know, his job.  But Romo hasn’t suspended his golfing, and he’s still good enough to be picked to win the annual celebrity tournament held in July at Lake Tahoe.

According to the Associated Press, Romo has been installed as a 5-2 favorite to prevail at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship, to be held on July 20-22.  Eight-time winner Rick Rhoden is considered a slightly longer shot, at 4-1.

Romo has finished second each of the past two years.

Three-time champ Billy Joe Tolliver is next, 9-2. John Smoltz is 5-1, and two-time tourney winner Dan Quinn is at 7-1. Defending champ Jack Wagner and Jeremy Roenick are each 8-1.  John Elway’s odds are 12-1.

Along with Kevin Nealon and Dennis Haysbert, Charles Barkley is the longest shot, at 500-1.

I’ll be right back, after borrowing $500 billion to bet against Barkley.

    Romo should save the headline.He will never be installed as a “FAVORITE” playing a meaningful football game.

    HE OUGHT to be great at golf, he’s used to being out there before the Pro-Ams in January.

    Stupid article on a stupid idea. Get a life losers if you watch this crap. Get off the sofa and walk or do something. This kind of pseudo-sports is almost as worthless as the WNBA or Danica Patrick

    @baddorange

    Why? Because you go for walks that means everybody has to do it?

    I don’t mean to be rude, but why don’t YOU do something other than critique the work of others?

    Anyone else in the NFL, this isn’t a story. But because it’s Romo, you post it, knowing you’ll get your daily amount of hits to pay for your house.

    Better at golf than anyone in the NFL and still a top 10 QB. Impressive!

    Romo, one of the most over-rated quarterbacks ever.
    Maybe he can play golf, cause he sure isn’t a quarterback. Dallas wasted how many years on this guy already. Very sad.

    He still will choke coming down the stretch.

    Who cares if Romo plays some golf on the side. He’s a good QB and he enjoys a little golf like I’m sure some of you halfwits do outside of your work.
