ReutersThere’s been much discussion in Dallas this offseason about whether the Cowboys are lacking in leadership. Dez Bryant says he’s one of the players providing leadership.
Bryant said he’s working hard in the offseason program both for himself and because he thinks the Cowboys’ younger receivers need to see from him how to conduct themselves as professionals.
“I just feel like I’m stepping up, doing my job, being accountable, making sure that I’m doing the right things so the people that are under me can do the right things,” Bryant said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “So you can say, somewhat of a leader.”
According to Bryant, his own leadership comes more from actions than from words.
“I feel like I’m leading by doing my work, playing hard, trying to take very rep, doing every rep at full speed, 100 percent of the time,” he said. “I feel like by me doing that, the younger guys are seeing it.”

Now that Dez is done mentoring Justin Blackmon at Oklahoma, he can concentrate on some of his younger teammates on the Cowboys.
Way to step up and show some maturity, DEZ. Hopefully it will continue on the field this year.
Dez will be beast mode this year: 80+ catches, 1200+ yds, 9+ tds.
I expect a huge year from dez
Dez Bryant is a leader. He is just the sort of leader exasperated parents are talking about when they yell at their kids:
“If one of you’re friends jumped off a cliff. you wouldn’t follow them would you!”
That’s nice to see from a talented player. Cowboys better hope his actions speak louder than his words. That’s how a real leader leads.
Dez could be the best Wide Reciever the Cowboys have ever had..he has the physical tools but does he have the maturity it takes? As a Cowboy fan I hope so…
Love it
Third year WRs are where they generally click. Dez is going to have a monster year if he can stay healthy and get conditioned. From his statements, sounds like he is trying to get it all put together.
First off, true leaders don’t call themselves leaders. They just lead and it just happens.
Maybe those talks with Michael Irvin are paying off !!!
Dez has stumbled, but he was showing leadership when he refused to carry that halfwit Roy Williams pads as a rookie.
I like what he is saying here. At least he isn’t like Roddy White saying he’s not gonna work as hard this year.
Looking forward to a big year Dez!
Problem with the Boys – Everyone from Tony Romo to the undrafted rookie thinks they are leaders. Don’t know how they all think about themselves when they wear the Cowboys uniform.
Let’s Go Dallas! Dez needs to grow up himself before he can be the team leader.
Dez Bryant is a certified bird brain. That is “somewhat” problematic.
Fitting comment since the Cowboys are “somewhat competitive”.
Somewhat out of shape
Dez couldn’t lead a thirsty animal to water. Talk is cheap. Leadership is earned, not self-proclaimed.
The next Michael Irvin! (Off the field)
Wait.. Wait.. Wait.. Are you telling me the most immature person on the Cowboys roster is a leader? Well then let’s just let T.O. handle the federal reserve’s finances..
These comments are somewhat amusing.
