I'm sure winning 12 or 13 games is all good, but I like his approach. The Giants kinda sneak their way in, and its an awesome strategy. I had them out of the running in the last quarter of the season last yr, and I got proved wrong. Well deserved for an excellent coach.

@mancave - Easy to say a coach or team is all hype especially when you are a raving hater. But putting down swords for a minute....you have to admit that it takes a special coach to do some of the following:

1) Get a heavy underdog team to beat an undefeated 17-0 Brady/Belichick led team.

2) Beat Favre in GB in January in neg 24 deg.

3) Beat top seeded Dallas in Dallas.

4) End NE's 20 win home streak.

5) Beat 15-1 defending SB champ, GB..again in GB in Jan.

6) Beat SF in SF in their weather.

7) Beat NE yet again in SB.

Note....all of the above occurred AWAY from Giants' Stadium.

Great coaches get their teams to rise to challenges. If the above weren't daunting challenges, then you are simply a blind hater.

I’m an Eagles fan, but in all honesty I don’t see where you get that. Coughlin has benefited from great defense and recently, Eli and his receivers being amazing. This has nothing to do with coaching. Last year they were 9-7. In fact, the Eagles were very close to sweeping them even with our pathetic defense last year. In 2010, he cursed out his punter on national TV after we came back to beat them. As for the Superbowl, the Giants might have won, but you’ll have a hard time convincing me they were the best team. The 49ers and Packers were both better. The Saints were definitely better. That doesn’t take anything away from the Giants’ win, but don’t go telling me what a “great coach” Mr. Redface Constipation Coughlin is.

--------------------------

what makes him a great coach is how he brings his team together and gets them ready to play. yeah during the regular season the 49ers and packers were better. And we CRUSHED the packers and made bigger plays then the 9ers to beat them too. and who prepared them? who coached them up? Coughlin!!!!!! Hence me saying great coach and oh the 2 superbowl wins in 5 years helps too dont ya think.

This is funny how so many Giants fans were calling for this guys head when they had the meltdown at the end of the 09 season. Also 2010 when didn't make playoffs. Even last year after starting out 6-2 they began a 4 game losing streak after week 9 it was all over the NY media and a majority of the fans saying Tom has to go and is on the hot seat. Now that they won another SB, everyone loves him and he's back to being a great coach again. Anyway Congrats Tom.

Mancave001 says:

Keep on drinking the Kool Aid. This is the team that got embarrassed in Miracle at the New Meadowlands in 2010. This is the team that nearly got swept by the Eagles last year were it not for the new defense. This team was simply not as good as the 49ers, Saints or Packers. The difference was they got hot at the right time, and had a little luck. Don’t get me wrong…that’s great. They won the SB and deserve it. But let’s get delusional about building a dynasty here because you came back and won a few games and squeaked your way into playoffs. A few years prior, the Patriots went 11-5 and didn’t even make the playoffs. Perspective, champ.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Typical eagles fan, I'll tell you what you hang on to your two miracles at the meadowlands and we will hang on to our 4 Superbowl trophies. The best team dosent always have to win, its who plays the best. Look at the NHL, the kings are the 8th seed and 1 win away from the championship, are they the best team?
You are just bitter because the eagles can never win when it matters most, the best player in your sorry franchises history had to win elsewhere (Reggie White) with GB. The Eagles couldn't win a free cotton candy at the carnival.
BTW. This kool-aid taste great especially when your sipping it next to four Lombardi trophies.
Eagles fans zip it. And stay in your cave troll.
You sound like a big whiny baby with all your Sf this, Gb that, NO is best blah blah blah. How'd your eagles do? Oh yeah 8-8. If I were u I'd be more worried about what your teams going to do after Vick gets crushed and his career is OVER. It's happening this year. Eagles = last in NFC east. Vick will be done forever, Andy Reid will be fired. Philly will pick up everyones has-been players and be the laughing stock of the NFL. Too bad really because I liked how the NFC east has been the best division in the NFL but those days are gone thanks to the Eagles not picking up their end of the deal.
@ tialan
Avoid a lame duck season? the team didn’t exactly win 10 games last year… They got hot when it mattered, if they do what they did last year, they might not even make the playoffs.
--------------------------------------------
Your right. They won 13 games.
Also, I forget, what did GB win last year for coming in first in the regular season?
I’m an Eagles fan, but in all honesty I don’t see where you get that. Coughlin has benefited from great defense and recently, Eli and his receivers being amazing. This has nothing to do with coaching. Last year they were 9-7. In fact, the Eagles were very close to sweeping them even with our pathetic defense last year. In 2010, he cursed out his punter on national TV after we came back to beat them. As for the Superbowl, the Giants might have won, but you’ll have a hard time convincing me they were the best team. The 49ers and Packers were both better. The Saints were definitely better. That doesn’t take anything away from the Giants’ win, but don’t go telling me what a “great coach” Mr. Redface Constipation Coughlin is.
The stats speak for themselves. This team is really remarkable when it comes to playing games with the season on the line. And guess what competition? There is more to come.
Peep the awesomeness below....
-------------------------------------------
Keep on drinking the Kool Aid. This is the team that got embarrassed in Miracle at the New Meadowlands in 2010. This is the team that nearly got swept by the Eagles last year were it not for the new defense. This team was simply not as good as the 49ers, Saints or Packers. The difference was they got hot at the right time, and had a little luck. Don't get me wrong...that's great. They won the SB and deserve it. But let's get delusional about building a dynasty here because you came back and won a few games and squeaked your way into playoffs. A few years prior, the Patriots went 11-5 and didn't even make the playoffs. Perspective, champ.
The stats speak for themselves. This team is really remarkable when it comes to playing games with the season on the line. And guess what competition? There is more to come.
Peep the awesomeness below.
Last year, the Giants won five regular season games in which they trailed in the fourth quarter, tying the franchise record they set in 2002. They tied Denver and Cincinnati for the NFL’s second-highest total. Arizona led the league with six.
In the last six seasons, the Giants’ regular season records have been 11-5, 8-8, 10-6, 12-4, 8-8, 10-6 and 9-7. Their six-year streak without a losing record is the Giants’ longest since they had 10 in a row from 1954-63.
The 2011 Giants were unique Super Bowl champions. They were the first team to win the title after a) losing seven games in the regular season; b) losing four consecutive games in the regular season; c) finishing with a negative scoring differential (394-400) in the regular season, and d) finishing last in the NFL in rushing in the regular season. They did so thanks to the resilience, toughness and tenacity which characterize Coughlin-coached teams. In their four postseason victories, the Giants defeated 10-6 Atlanta, 15-1 Green Bay, 13-3 San Francisco and 13-3 New England to become the first team to beat four teams in the playoffs with better regular season records. The Giants are the first team to twice win four games in a single postseason (doing it in 2007 and 2011.
He will be on to hot seat once they go .500 for the next two years. Then in the third year they will go slightly better than .500 with a record of 9-7 or 10-6 and sneak into the playoffs as a 5th or 6th seed. They will then go on a run and win the super bowl again.
_______________________________
Let me get this straight....
- The Giants have 3 weeks of the regular season left to make the playoffs.
- All 3 games are against teams that HATE US.
- 2 of the 3 games are MUST WINS.
- We accomplish what we had to, and made the playoffs.
HOW IS THAT "SNEAKING IN?"
Were we watching the TV, hoping a team would lose, so we could get in? NOPE.
If any team snuck in, it was Atlanta - who got SHUT OUT on offense in the first round against us, after winning more games than us during the regular season. So which is it? We snuck in, or Atlanta had an easier schedule?
YOUR LOGIC SUCKS!
