The 2011 Jets season ended with a fractured relationship between quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide receiver Santonio Holmes.
Steps have been taken to smooth things over this offseason and the latest one is Holmes’ decision to attend Sanchez’s “Jets West” passing camp in California this month. Holmes attended the workouts in 2010, but didn’t join his teammates last year because he wasn’t under contract. Holmes passed along the word via Twitter on Wednesday.
“YES! I will be attending “Jets West”. Will be a great few days with the guys”
A year of complaints about the offense from Holmes came to a head during the final week of the season. Holmes skipped a meeting for Sanchez and the wide receivers before getting benched in the season-ending loss to the Dolphins following a squabble in the huddle with tackle Wayne Hunter.
Holmes will be joining Sanchez, Tim Tebow and a host of other skill position players at the informal workouts. It’s hard to say how much the camp will help the Jets this season, but it certainly isn’t a bad thing to have the offense spending more time together after the ugly end to last season.
