Second-round pick Isaiah Pead signs with Rams

The Rams are inching closer to having their complete draft class under contract.

They got kicker Greg Zuerlein’s name on the dotted line and now the agent for second-round pick Isaiah Pead has announced that his client is under contract. Rick Smith sent out a tweet to that effect on Wednesday afternoon, followed closely by Pead’s announcement that he has his first job. Pead is the sixth Rams draft choice to sign with the team.

Pead was not with the Rams during OTAs because of the NFL rule prohibiting rookies from practicing with their teams until after the end of their college year. The University of Cincinnati wrapped up its semester in time for Pead to spend his first day with the team on Tuesday.

Now that he’s able to work, Pead will start trying to carve out a role for himself behind Steven Jackson. Pead’s explosiveness earned him pre-draft raves from Greg Cosell of NFL Films and helped convince the Rams that he has a shot to be Jackson’s replacement as the team’s feature back. For now, though, he’ll be a change-of-pace player and third-down back in St. Louis.

Can’t wait to see this kid on the field – he’s going to be a huge threat with his agility and speed

I really hate when fans try to act like experts and call guys a reach before they’ve played, but having said that, man he sure looks like a reach. 4th round talent at a 2nd round price…

What did Isaiah do in the bathroom?

Yeah, I wanna see who we took instead of Miller from the “U” and Wilson from VT….I saw some film and all he was doing was falling down after barely getting touched…I bet the Richardson kid is better from ACU.

I was hopin’ the Bungles were going to get him, keep him in Cincy. Oh well, I really hope he does well.

Had the pleasure of watching every home game of Isaiah’s in person and I truly believe the Rams are in for a treat. Very versatile player that can be used in a number of ways right out of the gate.

So, should we hate you back for trying to act like an expert by calling him a 4th round talent before he’s even played a snap?

Isaiah Pead out of Cincinnati. Pro Football Draft magazine, listed him as the #3 speed back. Rated, just lower than DavidWilson (Virginia Tech)#1, LaMichael James (Oregon)#2. He’s a little bigger, than both of the others. Even a littlebigger than Ronnie Hillman (San Diego St)#4. He played in 13/13 games last year averaging 5.3 yrds. For 1259 yds. He made more yds. catching passes than the other top 3 speed backs. Richardson and Chris Polk and Chris Rainey had more yds receiving. Although, he is a talented back. It is his intangables that make him most intriguing. He is going to make his mark in this league. Especially, since he will have Stephen Jackson to mentor him. He has a great attitude. He will be fun to watch. Can’t wait. I’m sure, the Rams can’t either.
