Another redskins fan here, and I agree with all of what you said, but the Redskins did win the super bowl in ’92, so they were pretty relevant a little ways out of the ’80s. Not far off, but I’m going to cling to all of the glory years possible!

Sometimes you part with a player and it seems like a good idea at the time. Then you find out later that the decision was premature. Dawkins was the heart of the Eagles and they haven’t been the same on defense since.

First off you are laughing at the death of a person? Nice one but I should expect it coming from a Skins fan. All those NFCCGs? Where was the last time the Skins had a winning record let only went to a NFCCG. Vick is still better then every quarter back on your roster or has been on our roster for the last 7 years. Andy Reid has less losses in 3 seasons then the Redskins have wins. Kevin Kolb the guy we drafted in the second round (36th overall) then traded for the 37th overall pick and a PB corner, yeah that was pretty funny.

Hey Joe– Philly will NEVER forgive you for how you handled Dawkins. If you hate fans from Philly, that’s fine. To be honest, as a lifelong Philly fan, I know that we have earned our label for being a tough city to play in. We complain, we act like idiots and we’re not very gracious in victory or defeat.

I only hope you people out there can trust one thing about us–WE WILL ALWAYS RESPECT TOUGHNESS. Brian Dawkins was as close to a warrior as you can be and every single Eagles fan loved him. He embodied everything we respect–passion, toughness, leadership and a little bit of that crazy/eccentric attitude that rubs off on anyone who lives here for long enough. The day they let go of him was like a day of shock/disbelief. How could Banner low ball the one guy who stood for everything that this fan base loves?

I hate Philly but this guy ran a good ship w/ a few bungled FA signings aside (like any other GM)…. and no one could have anticipated TO blowing up the team that year.

No one should hold that against him.

Regarding Dawkins – I know letting him go seemed like a bad move because he was a fan favorite but it is the modern NFL you let players go towards the end of their career. Banner’s mistake was not realizing how much gas Dawkins still had in the tank. If he knew that he surely would have resigned him.

I don’t think this should be an unforgivable mistake either. Disappointng because Dawkins was so good.

I think these are the only two substantial dings on an otherwise solid tenure and Owens going mental was totally out of his control.
