Shouldn’t the players and the NFLPA be pleased as punch (so to speak) that the sheriff wants to enforce the players’ own policy?

Bill Belichick looked at video tapes of practices also, yet he and the patriots didn’t get in near as much trouble as the Saints. Does that seem fair to any football fan?

So did someone on the Saints sleep with Goodell’s wife or something?

The NFL is headed for a major demise. Gonna be extremely fun to watch. The media loves to bring down famous and powerful men…..and Goodell will have his day in the end. And he has much more significant heights to fall from than most others. It’ll make Favre’s fall from grace look like a one night drunken blunder that’s embarrassing the next morning, but soon forgotten.

Seems to me they would have better luck by adding OTAs when these infractions occur, rather than taking them away. Threatening people with extra time off has never been an effective tool.

The coaches would be the one to blame for most of the hitting incidents, as it would be them allowing and encouraging the contact. To add more days to the teams as punishment would only serve as a reason for the coaches to allow more contact to get more days to practice. If you’re going to have sanctions, the current system, as annoying as it may be, would be the way to go. Contact equals less time the coaches get with their players; it should be reason enough for the coaches to enforce the CBA provisions.

This is so stupid. Violations for players hitting each other in a sport that requires you to hit? Gtfo here with that. The NFL is getting ridiculous with this sort of nonsense, I don’t care what team it is.

As someone pointed out, this is not the NFL’s doing; this was a provision put in to the CBA by the NFLPA.

Can the Saints sue the NFL for harrassment?

Let’s keep in mind the players/NFLPA were the ones who wanted to limit the amount of full contact practices. If the NFL failed to “protect” the players and uphold the CBA DeSmith would file a lawsuit so fast your head would spin.

If this was really an issue for the players/NFLPA you would’ve heard about it by now. My guess is the NFL would happily relax the rules on OTAs but they don’t get to choose. Maybe the fans should be angry at the NFLPA?

If the NFL is going to punish the Saints for this, the writing is on the wall for the appeals that have been scheduled. Petty and vindictive.
