APThe Saints have come to terms with a quarterback, but it’s not Drew Brees. Instead, it’s Luke McCown, who signed a one-year contract with New Orleans today.
Amid reports that Chase Daniel hasn’t looked good running the first-string offense during offseason practices, it’s not surprising that the Saints would want to get another backup quarterback under contract, even as everyone in New Orleans hopes that Brees will get a deal done soon and that the Saints won’t need Daniel, McCown or any other quarterback at all in 2012.
McCown is entering his ninth NFL season and has played for the Browns, Buccaneers and Jaguars, with nine starts in his career. He has nine touchdown passes and 14 interceptions in his career and has never shown much promise, although it’s possible that he’d be a better option than Daniel.
The Saints also announced that they’ve signed rookie running back Joe Banyard to a three-year contract.

Drew Brees wants an explanation?
Luke McCown NEVER needs an explanation!…
Saints are picking up ex Jaguars, McCown and Banyard. Things must be worst than we though down there.
Its amazing how every article yall write about the saints is a negative one.Shame on pro football talk.Ive been to 2 mini camps myself this week and chase daniel is probably in the best shape and in his prime right now.he looked great both days and it upsets me that yall would write this article. Its not fair to him.Hes worked hard this off season.
The Saints, like the Japanese who continue to loiter over fixing the major problems at the Fukushima Daichi nuclear plant, seem to be determined to commit suicide. What is the matter with Benson and the GM. Get the deal done with Brees, for chrissake.
I wonder why they signed him over Josh. He didn’t look THAT bad for the Bears last year. I guess after watching Hanie a few games anybody would look good though…,
-unrelated note- how did Hanie sign with the Broncos? Is having terrible backups a requirement to signing Manning?

It’s not a negative article at all. All he said was that there were reports Chase hadn’t played that well. Just because your opinion is different doesn’t mean the reports are wrong or non-existent.
Why do the McCowns keep getting QB jobs in the NFL?
Just the missing piece we need to overcome Bountygate and host Super Bowl XLVII.
Knock Brees out of the game and it will be a breeze to beat the aints
Saints are now the joke of the NFL
Could somebody tell me when the McCown boys were newsworthy?

Word on the street is that if you kill the head, the body’s dead.
Cam and the Panthers are going to crush the sorry Saints! Time to put the bags back on your heads!

Josh is with the Bears again this season.
Jon VIlma dropped 10k in cash on the table and proclaimed, “if Luke Mcown can complete one pass, ONE PASS, this is his.”
If it wasn’t for affirmative action guys like Luke Mcown and Matt Lienart wouldn’t have jobs.
