Vinny Curry injures ankle during “bull rush”

Add the Eagles to the list of teams that will now be bracing for the long arm of the “live contact” law to take away future OTA sessions.

Bob Grotz of the Times Herald reports that rookie second-round Eagles defensive end Vinny Curry sprained an ankle during practice on Tuesday, which caused him to miss practice on Wednesday.  Per Grotz, the injury happened while Curry was attempting to execute a “bull rush” against tackle D.J. Jones.

Given Seahawks coach Pete Carroll’s explanation that media accounts of fighting at practice resulted in the investigation that found impermissible live contact, the report of defensive linemen spraining ankles while executing “bull rush” maneuvers during supposedly non-contact drills will definitely result in a review of the films that the Eagles, like every team, are required to maintain of every practice.

With the Eagles wrapping up their OTAs on Thursday, any penalties could result in a loss of offseason practices in 2013.  And with coach Andy Reid likely on the hot seat, he could be inclined to take some chances in the final week of voluntary practices, given that if the team isn’t significantly better this season he won’t be around for any of the offseason drills next year.

The Eagles have a mandatory minicamp scheduled for next week.  It’s unknown whether Curry will be available for it.

Vinny thought he saw Babin in the crowd and a red mist came over him.

    1. Let’s all complain about the CBA, unions, and getting wet when it rains.

    2. Vinny Curry is going to be a Pro Bowler. Undervalued CFB star.

In PHI that’s called a “pit bull rush”.

Curry has ONE move. Thats it. This is why teams passed on him. The eagles think they scored big and got a great pass rusher…no read all the scouts take on the the guy.. he is nothing but a “one trick pony”.

Facts are Facts. Now give the guy a couple years in the league then lets see what he has learned huh.

Your silly for thinking Andy is on the hot seat.

Day 1) Kellen Winslow II joins the Seahawks.

    Day 2) Fighting.

    Day 3) …duh (facepalm).

Oh Mikey, you like to be hating on the Eagles, don’t you? So much so that it clouds your judgement and your ability to think straight, as if you ever could.

Bullrushing is simply translated as ‘running fast en-masse’. How is that equivalent to full contact? A lot of people sprain ankles running, it doesn’t take a hit from contact to do that.

Yeah, why would a fat loser be on the hot seat in Philly? Maybe he should run for mayor…

That’s why everyone at the Eagles practice has raved that Vinny has far more than just 1 move… I think I will go with their opinion since they are actually there watching him. But nice try pretending like you know what your talking about…

Judging by the title, I thought he was literally hurt in a bull rush in Spain or something like that.

  12. godeepwvu says: Jun 7, 2012 5:02 AM

Andy Reid is on the hot seat, so he decides to “chance it” with a light contact drill in an OTA. Hmmmmm…..you guys aren’t stretching for answers again, are you?

  13. tombrookshire says: Jun 7, 2012 5:49 AM

This is idiotic! Why not just tie their hands and feet together and then see what they can do? I am all for protecting players from injury, but will the NFL put cops on the field to watch every play in practice? First they take the kickoff out of the game, then remove contact from the practice of a contact sport. What’s next? Will the NFL soon be as unwatchable as the NBA?

I’m sure there are many other teams violating the new cba, mainly because its all new language that is going to take some getting used to. But since this is an eagles related story, florio jumped at the bit to write it so he can do what he does best and criticize philly. A bull rush? Give me a break…

  15. rgb2425 says: Jun 7, 2012 6:04 AM

Btw … what the hell does this have to do with andy being on the “hot seat?” Sounds like a sal palentonio article.

I dont know if he has one move or not, But what else do you expect his teammates to say, This guy sucks, He just has that one move. I’m just saying….

    Caliz,

It’s funny to hear a Dallas fan (I assume) try to downplay another teams draft pick before he steps on a pro field. All I heard from you guys was how great Spencer, Jenkins, J. Jones, Bryant, etc… were going to be and how other teams “missed” on them. How has that talent evaluation worked out for you?

Oh, and I already know, “this is the year Bryant becomes a star”………

Thats right… and we dont care at all. If Vick helps the Eagles win a Super Bowl I’ll kill a dog in his honor. We care about football, not worthless murderous pitbulls.

Fact: Dogs kill 30 people annually in the United States.

Vick is a hero for killing those dogs before they could kill an innocent child. HERO!!!!
