Life in the NFL has its perks, and one rookie says he found out about a pretty big one today: A police officer who’s a football fan might let you out of a traffic ticket.
On his verified Twitter account, Oakland sixth-round draft pick Christo Bilukidi wrote this afternoon that after he ran a red light, the officer who pulled him over let him off without a ticket when he said he played for the Raiders.
“Ran a red light n got pulled over, cop ask me what I do n I said I’m a Raider, I dodged a 428$ ticket. #BigLeague,” Bilukidi wrote.
The police, of course, are supposed to treat everyone they encounter equally, and not give preferential treatment to professional athletes. It’s also entirely possible that this particular officer would have given a mere warning to anyone he pulled over for this particular offense -- Bilukidi’s tweet suggests that he dodged the ticket because he’s a Raider, but that might not necessarily be the case.
Two years ago, Ravens running back Ray Rice got a Baltimore police officer in hot water by tweeting that he gave the officer an autograph and was let off with a warning after getting pulled over. NFL players would be wise to keep such incidents off Twitter.
