League officially suspends Simpson three games

AP

In the grand scheme of things, receiver Jerome Simpson escaped his conviction for receiving a large amount of pot at his home with a pop on the wrist.

He has a new job with the Vikings, he’s drawing rave reviews with his new team, he got a blink-and-you-missed-it jail sentence, and he officially has been suspended only three games by the NFL.

The league announced the decision today.  Along with the suspension, Simpson will be fined a game check.

Simpson will miss games against the Jaguars, Colts, and 49ers.  He’ll be suspended after the final preseason game, and he’ll be able to return the day after the contest against San Francisco.

Reports of Simpson’s suspension first emerged in late April.  Monday’s announcement likely means that the appeal process  has concluded.

  1. Good thing for him he was only violating the federal narcotics laws and not getting an incentive payment of a few hundred bucks for delivering a lawful “whack” to an offensive player. Goodell would have really nailed him then.

  2. This will almost make up for taking forever and ahalf, to suspend the Williams wall. I know totally different circumstances, but wasn’t the one person retired by the time his suspension came down?

The Viking fan base gets to find out how long of a season its going to be, if they don’t start out 2-1 it could be a VERY long season for them.

  3. It’s a fair cop, because rules are the rules. But still, when is our country going to allow us the “freedom” to smoke something other than tobacco?

  4. What are the chances of him just taking his medicine and not appealing the punishment?

  5. I don’t remember hearing greg williams preaching legal whacks….I do remember him mentioning some injuries and potential weaknesses however….poor saints

  6. I thought that if you were suspended 3 games you also lost three game checks not one.
Maybe I can get suspended from my job all summer. If it costs me two weeks pay that would be cool.

  7. Their first two games are two of their best chances for wins. Oh well… one more year of futility either way.

Get an education pot is not a narcotic. Get your facts before you post there are enough idiots on here. But what would i expect form an angry Saints fan they got what they deserved.

  9. True. We certainly would rather have players fined/suspended for doing something totally unrelated to football than for going against the rules and spirit of the game while purposely injuring others.

    That makes sense. No, really.

  10. “Jerome, if I throw you another pass do you think you could stick another one of those nasty flips?”

“I’d have to be pretty high, but yeah..”

“I bet you would Panama Red!”

  11. If he only got 3 games for that, Nick Fairley should only get suspended for 3 plays of the first game, and the other Lions should just get a warning.

Roger the Artful Dodger, the epitome of consistency. I can see how this would really upset Saints’ fans. This time I have to agree with you guys, but you still won’t win the NFC South again.

  12. Goodell is a joke. Murder, dealing drugs and many other criminal acts barely get punished but a team with a bounty program that produced NO injuries gets the hammer. NICE.

  13. The guy had what, 10 lbs. of marijuana FEDEX’D to his house! Welcome aboard, Jerome. Seriously, how can anyone cheer for this team?

  14. Roger Goodell was quoted as saying: “We’ve already used up almost all of our allotted suspensions for the year on the Saints. It’s much more important that rude speech is penalized harsh than marijuana use. Besides, what’s wrong with getting a little crunk?”

  16. Only an idiot would ship drugs through the PO or a package service. I worked for UPS for the holiday rush about ten years ago, and they told me they like to invite the local K9 sniffers down and go through the packages to keep them in practice.

Not like that was needed. I remember (barely) one time, years ago, going to a friend’s house, and the moment I walked in I said “What the hell is that smell?” He goes to his bedroom…on the SECOND FLOOR…and comes down with this tiny baggie of pot that smells like skunk that took a bath in diesel fuel. If an eighth or a gram or whatever that was can smell that bad, I’d hate to think how much of a stench ten pounds gives off.

That is funny when you look at it like that. Here’s the lesson kids: you’ll be punished a lot less for setting a bad example and breaking the law than collecting cash for hitting hard.

  18. Cant wait for this year to be over. The vikes and bad and the saints fans r just annoying… Id rather here more from the superstar trolls if the jets steelers cowboys than the crybaby saints fans

  19. He’s a low risk signing by the Vikes, and I hope he cleans up his act, but the guy should get a 3 game suspension simply for being dumb enough to Fed Ex’d dope to his personal address. As to the Saints and Packer commenters, it’s not like your senior coaching staff stole vicodin from the team medicine cabinet, or good old Carl G’s Pack player slurping down codine every other weekend. . . . oh wait.

  20. Real surprised you couldn’t find a photo of him in a Bengal uni; god this site is really slacking.

Simpson really is dumber than a box of rocks.

Hope he works out well for you Vikes……..

  21. It was all intended to be gifted to the American Glaucoma Ass.. Another honorable Vike getting the screws put to him.

  22. Great talent, criminal record……….just wondering why the Bengals didn’t wish to pursue him when they didn’t have a number 2 receiver. It’s not like he doesn’t fit the criteria of becoming a Bengal…….must be something we all don’t see. Maybe it’s Simpson’s football I.Q.

Looks like somebody’s still salty about that playoff loss

  25. It doesnt matter kuz well probaly be 2-1 anyways after week 3 but seriously he was dumb as shiet for doing that bbut hell will be a descent reciever for us

  26. It doesn’t matter if they suspend him for 3 weeks or 3 years…he still won’t know the playbook when he steps on the field.
