why are there always Ray-Duhh! fans on our posts?
wait? maybe because the Ray-Duhhs! have nothing better to do while they are at home collecting their federal aid!!!

Do not worry Ray-Duhh! fans, you will soon be back in LA, then at least you will be away from the crime ridden city of Oakland and you will have a brand new stadium to brag about, since you cannot brag about wins!

I remember is initial TOE/foot injury. It happened about 2.5 years ago in a playoff game. Looked painful… Gates is a BEAST and he’ll return to form. He’s still a Pro Bowler and SD’s #1 receiver.

@humbolt: Of course you want to lay a “50 burger” on the RAIDERS- that is THE superbowl for charger fans.

Doesn’t matter if they crumble under the overexpectations every year, just as long as they beat the RAIDERS.

Keep cherishing those regular season wins charger fan, I know it’s all you have.

Gates has been fat for two seasons now. Foot problems are chronic for the big guys, he had a nice run but it’s all over now. Just like the chargers.

He may not be on the same level as Gronk or Graham anymore, but you’re crazy if you count this guy out. He’s the healthiest he’s been since 2010 and his ‘down’ year last year went like this:

After missing three games, he caught 56 passes for 704 yards and seven touchdowns in the final 11 weeks.

Those numbers projected across a full season: 81 catches, 1,024 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also caught 72.7 percent of passes in his direction, the second-most efficient year of his career.

Amazing, Gates has been a “chunky monkey” for the last few years. Probably from all the “grazing” he was doing during previous injuries. Have always enjoyed his talents but he should have been conscientious of the weight gain much earlier and this is coming from a Chargers fan. Just because he was able to get away with it earlier in his career doesn’t make it right, take pride in your profession. There are plenty of cheap receiving tight ends available and coming up from the college ranks.

I think many NFL injuries are at least partly to blame on guys carrying more weight than their frame should carry. Gotta add the weight of equipment too.

With all the good news in San Diego this off-season, this may be the best. Gatesy’s foot problems are behind him, and there is not a more dedicated athlete in the NFL when it comes to conditioning and preparation. I have so much admiration for this young man. He’s going to return as one of the league’s dominant TE’s for several more years.
