Fins didn’t seek Bengals reference on Ochocinco

The Dolphins’ recruitment of Chad Ochocinco likely didn’t involve any questions about his mother’s line of work. It also didn’t involve any questions for the Bengals about the work Chad did in Cincinnati.

Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Dolphins didn’t call the Bengals for information about the man who spent 10 seasons with the franchise, eight of them with coach Marvin Lewis.

“They’re going to make a determination,” Lewis told Reedy. “There is no downside for them. Chad obviously had a great career here and I know he would be excited about that opportunity.”

Of course, the fact that the Bengals traded Ochocinco with a year left on his contract possibly says it all.

Then again, the Dolphins made the move even though Miami defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle arrived in Cincinnati with Chad in 2001, and Coyle worked for the team for the entirety of Chad’s tenure.

Still, Coyle didn’t work with the offense. Lewis and former/current Bengals assistant Hue Jackson did.

Jaguars offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski did, too, and the fact that Jacksonville made no play for Ochocinco could be the brightest red flag of all.
