Mendy is a quality RB and the Steelers could do much worse than him as the starter. Redman is very underrated and I think everyone is about to find that out this upcoming season. He is a pitbull. I personally love the way Redman goes about his business on the football field. I also like the Mendy plays as well. Just two different styles. That doesn't make either one a bad back. Make way for the Redman!!

ampatsisahypocrite says:
No question there were OL issues. But that’s almost besides the point. Ask yourself: when Mendenhall did break containment, how many long (40-yard plus) gainers did he bust? How many times did he take it long to the house? He’s just not the home-run threat you need in a feature back. Geez, even Walter Abercrombie busted a long TD now and then.
------------------------------------------------
Based on this logic, Timmy Smith is better than John Riggins and Willie Parker is better than Jerome Bettis. There is more to being a great running back than just having great speed. There is having great footwork, vision, making people miss, breaking tackles and more.

Can you name the RB with the most yards of any team to reach the Super Bowl in the Roger Goodell era (since 2006)?

Answer: Rashard Mendenhall - with 1273 yards in 2010. (Only 3 have had more yards rushing and reached the SB since 2003)

Mendenhall does decelerate when he breaks into the open field, but he also has phenomenal footwork and a great initial burst. When both the Steelers OL has blocked well and he has ran with discipline, Mendenhall has been hard to stop.

Mendenhall was the key reason for the Steelers defeating the Jets in the 2010 AFC Championship. The Packers struggled with stopping Mendenhall until a big play by Matthews caused a fumble (part of the blame for that falls on missed blocking assignment).

Mendenhall is a quality RB, not the best in the NFL, but hardly a weak link. And too compare him to Walter Abercrombie is nonsense.

Whoever mentioned a 4th grade reading/writing level on some of these posts was dead on!!

First off I am a diehard Ravens fan. I hate the Steelers just as much as the next guy but the level of stupidity in these comments is rediculous. It just shows how little you all know about football.

Everyone who says the Ravens and Steelers are done are just MORONS. There is a reason that each year they are fighting for the top spot in the division and are one of the best rivalries in football and that is because we are 2 of the best run organizations in the entire league. Hate all you want but from the top down -from ownership, GM, players, and fan bases - there are few that could touch us. All these Bengals and Browns fans should try to copy exactly what we have been doing for years and then maybe you wont be looking up at us each year (minus the one year here or there where your teams miraculously string together some good games)

So keep hating on us because neither the Steelers or Ravens will be going anywhere for years to come. By saying that each of our teams are done just shows how little you know and shows that you cant remove emotion from this and step back and make an educated evalutation of a team. It really makes you look stupid!!

One message to all Steelers fans though...stop comparing Super Bowl titles to the Ravens. The length of time our 2 franchises have been in existence makes the argument irrelevant.

Here's how the PFT "you're screwed now!" game works, for those who want to play along at home.

Player A -- a guy that the opposing team's fans had probably mocked up until now, and told you how much he sucks -- gets hurt.

Now all of a sudden Player A is a Hall of Famer! All so the opposing team's fans can tell you "how screwed you are now that ____ is hurt" (or retiring, or cut, or whatever".

Ravens fans are champs at playing this game! (Yes, at least they can be champs of something.)

I'll never understand why anyone would wanna support a team with so many low character guys on it.

They have a QB who says dumb things, does dumb (and sometimes dangerous) things, has a diva personality, and has more than once been accused of sexual misconduct.

Then they have a RB who humps teammates in the pile & makes asinine statements about the most wanted terrorist in the world.

Not to mention a WR (finally kicked off the squad) who was the dirtiest player at his position in the NFL.

They also have a LB who's routinely fined for playing very dirty (even by the standards of a defense that's well known for cheap shot play) & who runs his big mouth in the press with comments criticizing both the NFL & it's commissioner, which leaves him open to more fines & possible suspensions.

Yep, what a great bunch of role models for young football players to follow. Yet instead of insisting the team get rid of all the bad apples on the team, Steeler fans would rather makes excuses for these clowns.

Sure glad I never sold my sports soul like that by being a Pittsburgh fan.

I don't understand the need some feel to compare their team to another? Every year is a new opportunity to improve. Try being objective.

I hate the Steelers, but acknowledge how good they are, how good they've been, and how good they'll continue to be. Last year, their biggest weakness was their O-Line, and they took serious steps to rectify that situation in this years draft.

The Steelers, as usual, aren't going anywhere. They'll continue to be solid fundamentally, they'll continue to hit harder than any other team in the NFL, and they'll be in the thick of the playoff hunt.

I wish they'd collapse, but I sure wouldn't bet on it.

Mendenhall yet another solid Steeler draft pick, hah! This team is so overrated

Coming from a ravens fan whose team is always been predicted to win the division and go to the Super Bowl every year and yet hasnt won since 01. Just be quiet and stop commenting on this your makin yourself look more ignorant after every post.

The Steelers addressed their Offensive Line concerns thus offseason, but I wonder if they did enough to compensate for the effects of age and injury in other areas? I'm not a Steelers fan, but I think they were one of the teams that was more hurt by the ramifications of the lockout last season.

Those ramifications are going to be felt this year by a lot of teams, but some mayoress than others, and I think the Steelers will be one of the more unlucky ones in that respect.

First of all, I did not like Mendenhall’s political comments even a little bit. But, unless I wasn’t watching very well last year, he ran East and West a lot because there were too many opposing players occupying the North-South routes. You might think me wrong, but the Steelers did devote their first TWO choices to OL. Is there a message there for you critics of RM?
-----------------------------------------

No question there were OL issues. But that's almost besides the point. Ask yourself: when Mendenhall did break containment, how many long (40-yard plus) gainers did he bust? How many times did he take it long to the house? He's just not the home-run threat you need in a feature back. Geez, even Walter Abercrombie busted a long TD now and then.

I'll make you a friendly bet. I wager that Rainey has more long runs his first couple of years than Mendenhall's cut his entire career. (And he won't even be playing full time.) We'll have to see, but remember when it happens, where you heard it first.

for any Steeler fan to keep saying Rashard Mendenhall isnt that good knows Nothing about Football he’s a Top five Talent Redmond is good and Tough like him alot but he’s no Mendenhall he’s Special Power Great footwork and has Home Run Speed the Man posted 1,300 Yards and 13 TD’S just two seasons ago watch the Game stop Drinking so much Iron City!!!
-------------------------------------

Great footwork, yes. "Home run speed"? Uh, no. I can count on one hand the number of breakaway runs he's made since he's been a Steeler. Maybe you need to lay off the Natty Bo's?

Speed has been addressed with the addition of Mr. Rainey. Now THERE'S a blazer with after-burners. The perfect compliment to Raging Bull Redman. Sorry Ravens "this time you're finished!" crew, the Steeler drafting brain trust has done it again. The Steelers' "Thunder and Lightning" combo is set to roll in Pittsburgh.

Ravens and steelers not getting off to a very good start and it’s only the offseason. With the tough schedule this year, I think only one team of coming I the playoffs from this division… And it might be the bengals.
---------------------------------------------------------
The Bengals? Not going to happen....Best they go is 3-3 in the division

As for Mendenhall he is over-rated and Redmond under-rated
