Jakek2, your comments and reasoning are stupid….. You can be angry, feel cheated for your sorry team, or complain all you want….. But if you were to ask a real litigation lawyer (like me) you sound like a sad and uneducated little man….the NFL has all the legal rights to isolate the Saints as a rogue franchise that cheats, and the prosecuting party in an arbitrary situation such as this was agreed upon to be the governing commissioner…Roger Goodell…it is what it is junior…. The Saints cheated in his perspective and he gets to make the decision legally…enjoy sounding like a clown to all that read your posts….

You are not an attorney otherwise you would know that repetitive name reduces your credibility to zero immediately. As a real litigation attorney myself, I would expect a fellow attorney to attack the crux of my argument (that Goodell has acted unfairly) rather than offer absolutely nothing substantive. In that way, you are no different than most other pro-owners on this site.

By the way, my "sorry team" happens to be the defending world champion New York Football Giants.

These Goodell defenders are so simple….

There were hundreds of issues to resolve in the collective bargaining agreement and the players needed to PICK THEIR BATTLES in order to have a season.

The owners will wake up, listen to their players and realize they created a monster in Goodell.

In theory, the "judge, jury and executioner" term of the CBA was rightfully not a sticking point for the players. After all, 95% of the players will never have to worry about it. The remaining 5% (i.e. the Suhs and Harrisons of the league) would be affected.

However, even to those 5%, they reasonably expected that Goodell would exercise his power as j,j,e fairly. The term "fair" does not have to be specifically spelled out in the CBA. Fairness is an implied term inherent in every contract. When you agree to buy a car and the contract says that the dealer can "charge late fees" for late payments, do you think that the word "fair" needs to be in that contract or that the dealer can charge you whatever late fees he wants??? Use your heads people. This is the Saints' bone of contention. Simple as that.

Even the staunchest of Goodell supporters have to agree that j,j,e's back in William Wallace Scotland seemingly gave criminals more of a fighting chance before lopping off someone's head.

The problem here is Goodell has done nothing to alienate the ownership of the vast majority of teams. There is already a contingent that doesn't like him and never have...particularly the family run franchise like the Rooneys in Pit, Browns in Cin & the Wilsons in Buf. There were a couple others who began to see the points made by the owners above for a few years during the lockout. The Saints ownership probably doesn't care for him too much by this point either. So you potentially have 6-8 team owners who are against him right now. But he just got a long contract extension not too long ago. If you could get 10-14 teams against him, they could just fire him in a couple years and payoff the remaining years on his contract. But it would take a lot to do this. First off, the teams I mentioned other than the Saints, have most of their complaints in the financial structure. They believe Goodell is threatening parity by not compensating smaller market teams. THe end argument is they believe then that all teams can truly spend to the cap every year. I don't see any team being unhappy about the bounty scandals handling. Even the Saints owner agreed with the action. So I think Goodell is here to stay. ANd remember why he got all the power to begin with. It was because the old player discipline system wasn't working anymore.

I agree because they were way too desperate to get a deal, but at the same time they made litigation way too much of a priority with the antitrust suits!!!

You cannot litigate when antitrust among the teams are for your benefit!!! the antitrust exemptions for the teams are a big reason why there is a salary cap, parity, and other ways for every team and player to have a chance to succeed!!!

If it was said during Spring 2011 that you get nothing done while you litigate don't have antitrust suits!!!

All of the litigation time could have been substituted with collective bargaining time!!! During the time where fans were siding with the players that was enough leverage for the owners to cave in!!!

I do not know how the NFLPA came up with their director candidate pool, but the next time you pick a director get someone who ACTUALLY has NFL-related experience. DeMaurice Smith never did and now look where it's leading the players??

I don't recall that part of the whole circus that was the CBA negotiations. I recall long periods of time where the NFLPA refused to talk and wanted to fight it out in court. I suspect the NFLPA picked their battles based on what would make the NFLPA the most money. I don't know exactly how the union dues work in the NFL, but I bet the players getting a larger percent of the revenue meant more money for the NFLPA.

The players didn't get screwed, they screwed themselves by taking the rewards now instead of later. The owners knew the players would never miss game checks, too many are living check-to-check to miss them. The NFLPA leadership knew this as well, so they focused on "winning" what they could before the money stopped and the players mutinied: less practice, OTA, and off-season time at work, more free-time in season, and other non-important fluff that the league was all too willing to concede. About the only real thing they "won" was 55% of all tv money and a hard salary floor, but that doesn't kick in until 3 years into the deal. The owners(as usual) lowered the cost of rookies thereby decreasing the price of a draft failure and lowered the overall cap. Less money out, more money in. There's a reason the owners are OWNERS and the players are EMPLOYEES; not partners.

These Goodell defenders are so simple....

There were hundreds of issues to resolve in the collective bargaining agreement and the players needed to PICK THEIR BATTLES in order to have a season.

Goodells policies are superficial nonsense and window dressing. The guy needs to be regulated to improve the quality of the game and stop arbitrarily administering justice based on Mike and Mike in the morning.

The owners will wake up, listen to their players and realize they created a monster in Goodell.

“Players complaining that Roger Goodell is “judge, jury and executioner” are a little late to the party. Players allowed in July.”
----------------
That's fine and Goodell would clearly be in the right if he was exercising his job as "judge", "jury" and "executioner"....wait for it....wait for it.....

FAIRLY!!!!!

Withholding information, giving players losing millions of $$ 200 out of 50,000 pages, not disclosing witnesses, investigating a "problem" for 3 years and not stopping it while he had a chance but letting it continue as if nothing was wrong is all.....take a guess folks.....you got it.....

UNFAIR!!

Players did not agree to be treated UNFAIRLY. Goodell's agreed-upon job as "arbiter" expressly requires him to act....come on now....I know you guys can get this one....all together now.....

FAIRLY!!!!!!!!!!

Every team, with the exception of the Steelers voted to approve the new CBA. IF he would have read it, before he voted to approve it, then he could complain.

He either didn't read it, or didn't care. Either way, he, along with 30 other teams, handed this to Goodell. Now, he complains?

Why everyone here hates Jeffrey Kessler is beyond me. The only chance the players had for a fair deal was to follow Kessler into decertification.

“Players complaining that Roger Goodell is “judge, jury and executioner” are a little late to the party. Players allowed in July.”

Thank you, Mr. Brandt. 100% correct, and unarguably so. Unless Goodell has violated the terms of the SBA, the players need to make their cases to him and then shut up an deal with it.

Roddy's about to get called down to Principal Smith's office though. :D
