Every X Games athlete? Yes, the Winter X Games, that shining beacon of racial diversity. Please, man.

Obviously, not every cop nor every municipality is going to handle to these things exactly the same way, but it’s not a matter of opinion that in general, young black guys aren’t going to get the same benefit of the doubt that young white guys are. I’ve seen it, you’ve seen it, we’ve all seen it. It exists. Maybe there were black guys in the group. I’d love to find out more. But all things being equal, these things are never equal.

You continue to YET again miss the point. You know NOTHING about Aspen. Yet you want to dismiss everything, and generalize.

The point about the athletes was not x games athletes are diverse (and actually, there are quite a few Asians in that group, Ryo Aono and Yuka Fujimori come to mind without even looking up any), it was that Aspen as a town, is used to famous people, athletes, rich people, poor people, and that sometimes, someone that looks like a nobody is really a somebody.

In that town, they don’t racially profile people. Yet you, who outside of this article probably never heard of Aspen, want to say “if they had been black, all things being equal they’d have gotten arrested, because of stuff that happened to Ryan Moats in Dallas”.

Yes, racial profiling does exist. Yes, I’ve seen it. But I’m not stupid enough to make blanket statements generalizing one small town in western America, to a huge urban city in America’s South.

The town is pretty much a tourist town, where tourism provides a large part of their income. Which is why they treat everyone with respect, and equality. Because out there, you mistreat someone, and they turn out to be the CEO of blockbuster, and the next thing you know, a billionaire is spending money on your competitor’s business/city/town/property for sale, and not yours.

Stop running from the racial conversation. You are right, we have no idea what would’ve happened but, in your honest OPINION, do you really think it would’ve ended the same way if Welker and his friends were Black? Why? It’s fact, Blacks don’t get the same respect from police or just society as a whole as White people. Would Trayvon Martin be dead if he was white? you are being a naive fool if you think the situation would’ve been the same if Welker was Black. I believe there definitely would’ve been an arrest if Welker was Black.

Years ago – Loved skiing in Aspen – and was there once during a black ski week – when the town welcomed many African Americans – and I don’t recall any problems.

Google “ryan moats dallas police”. Sad to say, but I don’t think for a second this incident would have been handled the same way for someone “different” than Welker.

Yes, because *every* small town in america handles things the same way as an urban city (rolls eyes). Especially small towns that routinely have guests like Michael Jordan, Micheal Eisner, and um, oh every single athlete that participates in the Espn X games.

I’m sure if it was 7 black players crashing that party the “lecture and release” would have been “arrest and charge”.

It’s comments like this that continue racial bias in this country. Comments made like this, with no merit, are just like crying wolf.

As someone that skiis in Aspen on a regular basis, they are 1) extremely tolerant of stupid behavior (I only got a stern warning when I hit one of the officers with a snowball) 2) they are used to high profile/wealthy individuals of ALL races there 3) about as open minded (read: anti racist) as any place I’ve been too.

Besides, the town is like 4 square miles….their police force isn’t big enough to arrest 7 people, let alone their jail holding them

C’mon guy, playing the race card? How do you know 1, 2 or more of Welker’s friends weren’t black? A majority of the players Welker plays with on the Patriots are black, so how can you speak about race issues before knowing the full truth? You are a part of the reason that people of different race have a hard time getting along. Grow up, not everything is about color.
