Percy Harvin says he’s “clueless on the crazy reports”

Percy Harvin AP

Wide receiver Percy Harvin returned to Vikings practice on Thursday and then took to Twitter in an attempt to downplay everything that went down over the last two days.

Harvin, who was quite open about having “issues” and not being happy with the Vikings even if he didn’t outline exactly what those issues were, played dumbstruck about all of the attention being paid to him. That’s likely of less importance to the Vikings than the fact that he dropped a big hint that he’s not thinking about skipping any of training camp in Mankato, Minnesota later this summer.

“I’m really clueless on the crazy reports…had great prac today ….to all my real fans and real vikes fans see u at Mankato..salute”

There’s still time for things to flare up again, especially since members of the Vikings organization reportedly thought Harvin’s initial outburst came out of left field, but it seems like things have moved off the front burner for the time being. If the issue is playing time — a good bet since Harvin says it isn’t about money although more playing time leads to more money if you do the right things with it — the Vikings may have assured Harvin that he’ll be satisfied with the role they have in mind for him this season.

The rest of the football world put their hands to their temples, screwed their eyes shut, and groaned out loud.

Saying Percy Harvin is “clueless” is overstating his level of awareness.

  3. tombradysponytail says: Jun 21, 2012 3:29 PM

    Yeah… I’m sure they’ll be winning a Super Bowl real soon….

  4. richkotitte says: Jun 21, 2012 3:29 PM

Tiki Barber was flabbergasted upon hearing about Percy’s lack of clues.

  5. rugdog100 says: Jun 21, 2012 3:30 PM

I think the issue is not being on the field in the red zone. He should be on the field for 95% of the offensive plays, so that the opposing DC has to account for him. Even if he stands out there and doesn’t run a route, they have to account for him.

Keep pounding that hatorade folks! Percy isnt going anywhere, and the Vikes will be a lot tougher than people realize! SKOL

Have you ever seen those old West cowboy movies? You know, the ones with the carriages. Well a lot of the times the carriages are pulled by two, four, or six horses. The Vikings are pulled by two workhorses, Percy Harvin and Adrian Peterson. Adrian Peterson depends on Percy open up the run game by shredding defenses. Percy Harvin depends on Adrian Peterson to open up the pass game with play action. They depend on each other and you must keep both horses happy even if one is a little more difficult than the other. Very rarely in history can a player carry his entire team, the carriage, alone. Not Adrian Peterson, not Michael Jordan, not Kobe Bryant, not Maurice Jones Drew. (Sorry for the corny basketball examples, I’m only a football fan).

  9. myeaglescantwin says: Jun 21, 2012 3:53 PM

    who could blame him?

peterson should have held out too!
why would you wanna live in Minnesota? lets be serious.

The team itself is falling apart at the seems. Childress, Farve, the collapse,, doesnt seem like they are advertising paradise for players.

but percy was ‘problem child’ coming out of the draft, & has serious physical issues. who would give more than a 4th for him?
or am i selling him short?
    (real question)

  10. vikesfansteve says: Jun 21, 2012 3:57 PM

Erik Dickerson carried the Rams to the NFC Championship and also the Colts to the playoffs.
AP might have helped carried the Vikings to the Super Bowl if he hadn’t fumbled thrice in his NFC Championship. Percy also pitched in a fumble.

  11. christinamer says: Jun 21, 2012 3:58 PM

The thing about it Percy, is now even if you stay in Minnesota you will have to win back a lot of fans’ respect and trust. Fans don’t look highly upon a diva-like temper tantrum and actions which could be interpreted as you not caring about the team.

That being said, as a Minnesota fan I know we NEED to find a way to keep Percy and keep him happy. He was one of my favorite Vikings – but after this little tirade I will appreciate his talents on a “business only” level.

All is well that ends okay, but c’mon Percy… don’t play the innocent card.

  13. ashleenaome says: Jun 21, 2012 4:03 PM

Sadly all the money went to the billionaire. Sorry Percy.

  14. cliffordc05 says: Jun 21, 2012 4:08 PM

Hopefully, Harvin has received some good advice and is keeping his mouth shut in public. If he has issues with the Vikings then he should deal with the Vikings and not the press. If he has been getting some advice from noted nose picker Randy Moss then he needs to have his head examined.

Percy : I wanna be traded, or play more, or more money, or…..

Vikings managment : Listen you little p**-ant. We drafted you. We took a big chance on you. We took care of your migraines. You signed a standard 5 year contract that has already made you richer than your fans. You have two years left on it. You ain’t going anywhere. If you don’t wanna play here, fine. You just don’t get paid.

Oh, and another thing. We just drafted your potential replacement who is hungry to prove so if you’re “happy” or not we don’t care. We’ll play without you.

Besides, Percy, you’re not getting much love out there from the fans. They think you’re acting like a tool.

Percy : Well…ahhh…. Where are all these reports coming from? See you in July coach.

    Fraiser: Damn straight you will.

  19. oberg435 says: Jun 21, 2012 4:26 PM

He must be, hi everyone. In percys defense when your the best player on the offense. When AP is out, I would be pissed too if I never saw the ball in the red zone.

  20. ikeman20 says: Jun 21, 2012 4:45 PM

just throw moss under d bus and all u gullible football fans are more than happy to eat it up..amazing. But let it be a player that U like being thrown under, all yall will be quick to ask for proof n evidence

  21. bearsrulepackdrool says: Jun 21, 2012 4:49 PM

Crazy reports?! You said it…on video. Then you didn’t show up. Jeez. You’d think with all the history of players announcing their intentions to be traded he would see this coming.

Me thinks Mr. Harvin is missing some marbles up top.

  24. scottpavek says: Jun 21, 2012 4:54 PM

he says he’s on good terms with Frazier, and that his request to be traded has nothing to do with the money – only logical reason he’s pissed is because of Musgrave and his under-utilization of Percy (58%!)

And Frazier can do nothing because Musgrave is a Spielman guy. Thus Percy demands a trade.

  25. stellarperformance says: Jun 21, 2012 4:56 PM

His cluelessness may be due to the inhalation of his migraine “medicine.”

When asked if this could be the problem he is reluctant to talk about, he replied, “I used to smoke marijuana. But I’ll tell you something…I would only smoke it in the late evening. Oh, occasionally the early evening, but usually the late evening – or the mid-evening. Just the early evening, midevening and late evening. Occasionally, early afternoon, early mid-afternoon, or perhaps the late-midafternoon. Oh, sometimes the early-mid-late-early morning. . . But never at dusk! Never at dusk, I would never do that.”

  26. antalicus says: Jun 21, 2012 5:03 PM

Hey Percy, I am a real fan of yours, and a real Vikings fan. The fact remains, YOU created the drama. If you don’t want people speculating, say it’s about your role, and that you want your buddy Joe Webb to be the QB. And you’re still bitter about the justified treatment that your buddy Randy Moss received. You clearly stated on Twitter that it wasn’t about money, so it’s not hard to come to these conclusions. Unless you were misquoted on Twitter. Which would be awesome.

  29. granadafan says: Jun 21, 2012 5:08 PM

    “I can’t go to practice because I have a ‘migraine’!” in 3-2-1….

  30. tformation says: Jun 21, 2012 5:10 PM

When you don’t TELL people why you’re unhappy, people will just have to GUESS why you’re unhappy.

Don’t like the speculation? Too bad. Come out and say what your problem is like a man. That’ll end the guesses right there.

Ellard had like 5 TD’s that year and Anderson wasn’t on the team same with Everet but you were close genius.

Dickerson’s 280 yds in the playoff game against the Cowboys CARRIED them to the NFC Championship.

    Don’t post anymore dude.

Does anyone else see what happens here?
    1. Catch wind of a possible story.
    2. Take a WAG at the reason for the story. (example: why is this player upset?)
    3. Wait for player to confirm or deny.
    4. If player denies, then take another WAG.
5.Rinse and repeat as often as necessary.

  43. wiseguy12 says: Jun 21, 2012 10:13 PM

I would challange all those that criticize Harvin to watch a game that he has played in. Any game. He has never quit, regardless of the score or situation. He and Peterson give 110% all game every game. He has played through pain and adversity on a number of occassions. Anyone that thinks an athlete can play football with a migrane headache has either never had one or is a complete fool. The offensive playcalling last year was atrociuous. On one single play a professional’s career can end. He has proved his worth give him the playing time and give him the money.

Just in case you missed bigjazz’s post, here is a replay!

Percy : I wanna be traded, or play more, or more money, or…..

  48. hugejazz says: Jun 22, 2012 8:10 AM

wiseguy12, no one is doubting Harvin’s effort. He gives it his all. He had good numbers….for a losing team. But his numbers do not warrant a contract renewal, with TWO years left, when compared to others with much better numbers.

As far as this being about his playing time, agreed, he needs to be on the field more.

But whenever a player says it isn’t about money it’s ALWAYS about money. Players are no more loyal to a team than any other employee of any other company in any other business.

If a rival company offers me more money to do the same thing I’m going to take it. And you would too.

But here again, Harvin’s under contract for two more years. He has no leverage.

  49. edhochuliisanhonestzebra says: Jun 23, 2012 1:28 PM

Since he came into the league, no wide receiver has more all-purpose yardage than Percy Harvin.
Yet, he’s currently only the 63rd highest paid receiver in the NFL.
Last year: 16 games and 87 catches for 967 yards and 6 TDs PLUS 51 rushes for 342 yards and
    2 more TDs = 1309 yards, 8 TDs.
