Plaxico doesn’t sound high on Sanchez or Tebow

Free agent receiver Plaxico Burress says he’s ready to play and play well this season, but he doesn’t sound like he wants to play for the Jets again.

In an interview on ESPN First Take, Burress was asked repeatedly what he thinks of Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, and he declined repeatedly to say anything positive about Sanchez.

Asked if Sanchez is the quarterback to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl, Burress answered, “They just paid him so I think they believe he is.”

When it was pointed out that the question wasn’t whether the Jets think Sanchez can lead them to a Super Bowl but whether Burress thinks Sanchez can lead the Jets to a Super Bowl, Burress again declined to endorse Sanchez, instead praising the Jets’ defense.

“Um, I think the defense will,” Burress said. “I think they definitely have a Super Bowl defense.”

Burress also doesn’t sound particularly high on the Jets’ new backup quarterback, Tim Tebow. Asked about a receiver’s perspective on Tebow, Burress said it’s hard for a receiver to get excited about a quarterback who doesn’t pass particularly well.

“As a starting wide receiver in the NFL, you walk out there on Sunday and line up,” Burress said, “it’s not Peyton Manning back there.”

So we can identify the Jets as one team Burress isn’t particularly interested in playing for. And we still haven’t identified any teams that are interested in having Burress play for them.
